With the multitude of WC/F1GP editors available for the PC I think you
can already almost customize it till your hearts content. The major
features of the new Amiga editor are available in PC editors
already (although I think the windows GPedit on Compuserve is the only
one which incorporates all of them in 1 package..this may be the same
one as on the net..I'm not sure.):

   * Change the colour schemes for all the cars, driver helmets and pit
     crews.

(F1ed version 2.00 can do this (not sure about the pit crews but I
think so))

   * Edit the team, engine and driver names.

(This can be done via the Driver Selection Menu in the game itself)

   * Determine how fast each of the cars will go (upto 250 mph!).

(This can be the result of modifying the engine HP's in F1ed or GPedit etc..)

   * Determine how often individual drivers will make mistakes.

(This *cannot* be done in any of the PC editors as far as I know..
Interesting feature though!)

In addition, the WCF1GP tire grip editor can modify *your own* HP as
well as the computer car tire grip. The latter is *extremely* useful
on tight tracks like Monaco with a lot of braking areas.. Because the
PC version AI cars always brake early, the only previous way to make
them more competitive was to increase their HP which just let them go
faster on the straights (not very realistic IMO). So instead, with the
tire grip editor, you can increase their tire grip which lets them
brake later and take the corners faster instead of having to give them
230mph top speeds.. The only drawback is that when they corner faster,
they wear their tires out quicker, but the timing of their pitstops is
hardwired into the game for each track, so if they only run a 1 stop
race, they may have badly worn tires by the end which will make their
lap times slower than normal in the latter stages..

Which features were you wishing you had?

Later,

RQ

Hi!, just wondering if there is a BBS (anywhere in North America) where I
could download the F1GP editors you described, I am no a Compuserve
member, so that option is out. I already have F1ED 1.3 and have created
very realistic 1993 drivers/team settings, which we play 75% race distance
seasons with, but the Tire Grip editor sounds great! It is strang that the
MicroProse BBS (410 785-1841) does not have all these editors. (prehaps you
could upload them, all of F1GPdom would be very greatful!) If you could re-post with a concise list of all the editors you have, and thier functions it would
be very helpful to all who are interested in editing F1GP.

Thanx

to me (the author) if users want to see future versions.

F1GP-Ed allows the user to customize their copy of F1GP.  Here is a brief
selection of the features that F1GP-Ed offers:

   * User-friendly KS 2.0 style GUI, for all Smigas.  Supports reqtools,
     and/or asl libraries.

   * Change the colour schemes for all the cars, driver helmets and pit
     crews.

   * Use the full quota of 20 teams and 40 drivers, and chose the ones
you wish to be selected when you load F1GP.

   * Edit the team, engine and driver names.

   * Determine how fast each of the cars will go (upto 250 mph!).

   * Determine how often individual drivers will make mistakes.

   * Preset the options in the Help, Race and Game options menus.

   * Two new keyboard layouts, for A600 and A1200 owners.

   * Set the default directory to be used in the F1GP file requesters.

   * Save your lap records and car setups to the F1GP binary, so you
don't have to load them each time you run F1GP.

This is just a taste of what F1GP-Ed has to offer.  F1GP-Ed is available
on Aminet in the game/misc dir.

The MicroProse BBS will probably unwilling to put any editors there.  In recent
correspondence with Microprose, they said that they do not support editors, that
change their games of any kind, but they do not discourage them in being made.

I  agree,  although I heard it was done by just by  reducing  the
opponents HP.. I could be wrong tho'

I  thought  that was with the 1 - (32?) values  for  qualifying  and
race.

I  guess all of them alltogether...Maybe I just don't like  amiga
people having more than PC people... :-)

F1GP-Ed has now been uploaded to Aminet.  If you are quick you will find
it on ftp.luth.se in the new dir.  It will appear in the game/misc dir
when it has been processed.

*** WARNING ***
I have spent about 12 hours trying to fix a bug which caused some of the
file requesters to crash.  Unfortunately, I don't think I found the
cause, so if it crashes on you, please mail me giving me the details of
your system, what you did and what happened.  I rushed this version out
as I will not be able to spend any more time on it for at least another
3 weeks.

Regarding MicroProse's stand on Editors for F1GP re:'they don't want anything
that will edit their programs' This is utter nonsense! They already have
F1ED 1.3 on their BBS along with all sorts of settings (F1ed.DTA) files. I
have personally talked with Quentin Chaney (the sysop) about uploading an
edited version of the ENTIRE F1GP executable for the Amiga, and he had no
problems at all even with this extreme example (I was sure he would not want
edited versions of parts of their products uploaded, but apparently they
consider F1GP for Amiga a dead product, and couldn't care less!) So with this
information in hand PLEASE upload all you have to the MPS BBS at (410) 785-1841

Thanx

This is probably a stupid question, but please take some time to
answer (no flames please - I'm new to the internet so I haven't found out
exactly how to use it yet). Could someone please tell me how I can download
the program advertised below, starting with how to get onto Aminet?

Thanks a lot for your time.
