Rendition or Matrox???

Unfortunately the Mystique is not a viable 3D solution.  It is still a
fast DOS and 2D Windows card, but it lacks filtering.  This is a huge
drawback, as Bi-linear filtering is one of the most noticeable features
of a 3D card.  I assume you've seen the new Mario64?  It's only running
in 256x224, but looks much better, mainly due to the smooth textures as
a result of bi-linear filtering.

Currently for 3D there are only 2 options, an add-on 3D only Voodoo or
the replacement 2D/3D combo Rendition cards.

I'm running the Intergraph(rendition chip) reactor 3d card,myself.The
whole 3d scene seems pretty much deivided between the the rendition chip
and the virge, with a few others coming on the scene..so I agree it is
hard to settle on one.
However,it is likely that game programs will get ported eventually to
those left still standing when the smoke clears...I happen to think the
rendition chip will be one of them...
As for the others...who knows?

If you posted this on comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware.video you would probably
have been burned alive by the Voodoo people already.  I wish they could
see more posts like this that have nothing to do with benchmarks, just
people who play computer games and buy what is available off the shelf.
I guess everybody has there own version of reality.
