GPL Framerates - do me a favour

I'm close to going for a PIII450 (as the prices have just plummetted), 64Mb,
V3000 etc. to replace my P200, V2100, R3D, 64Mb.

Before I do, can anyone with a similar spec give me framerate examples of
start of race, full field, rear of grid, heavy track (I'm guessing Monaco or
Monza would be best) running at 800x600, full objects and texturing, detail
at 50% or greater, nothing in mirrors but cars, all other car special gfx
effects on.

I am looking forward to being able to race a full field, be able to see where
I'm going and not be hampered by sub 10fps performance at crucial moments.

I want a new system yesterday, but if your results aren't satisfactory, I may
hang on just another couple of months until the 500-550s come into my price
bracket.

Cheers

I have a Celeron 300a OC'd to 450, same amount of ram, VooDoo 2 , about the
same graphics details you mention and yesterday I was racing online at
Zandvoort, started with at least 7/8 cars in front of me and was having 33 /
35 fps.

With what you plan on buying, you should be able to have all graphics on and
have 36 fps solid.

Running at 800x600 is not necessary as 1024x768 will be just as fast on a V3
3000.
You will get 36 fps in 1024x768 at the back of the Monza-grid (19 cars) with
detail  at 25%

I can do that with V2 and a P2-400, except 128 megs ram, though.  You ought
to be in great shape with that machine--why only 64 megs?  Another 64megs
ram will make a lot of difference with several games.

Sounds to me like you've got yourself a very good system there. The
green eyed monster is out and about! <g>

You should have no problems running at the 36fps with all of that. In
fact, you _might_ even be able to turn the mirrors and bias up a tad
with that system config'.

I agree here - my V3 3000 let me run 1024x768 at the same framerates on my
P2-400 as with my V2 at 800x600.

   You'll be sweet, but.........

Get 128 megs of ram and OC as well.

How many FPS do you get, with the Voodoo3 on your system, with _all_
details switched on?

64MB is plenty, but I agree that 128MB would be better...

As for overclocking, don't bother, unless you're willing to pay the
price if things go wrong.

full field, start from the back, slider 50%, cars and track in
mirrors, all eyecandy on:
640x480:        always 36fps
800x600:        start 32, 1st corner 36fps
1024x768:       start 29, 1st corner 36fps

Important: 30fps with the V3 are running much smoother than 30fps on
my old V1 - dunno why

How odd.  Good, though.  Heard similar things about TNT/OpenGL where it would
report 36 fps but not look smooth.  And thanks for the details, just what I
was after.

I very likely will.  Had my bonus news about 10 minutes ago and all is well

At Monza, all details on, I get 18-19 fps at the start (starting from the end
of the grid),
and the frame rate goes up really fast when the other cars disappear (sic...)
from my view.
Resolution is 900something by 700something (the one just above 800x600) and
I'm
running a full field of cars.

PIII 450, V3 2000, 128MB.

All in all, I'm VERY happy about my system... 36 fps are a common thing during
races, even with
several cars in view.
