Does the Geforce 3 work well with GPL?
I  am using a P111/800 - V5500 combo at the moment
thanks,

I can assure you that GPL works extraordinarily well with the GF3 and a
P3/800, at least with how those items are configured with the rest of my
equipment.

I have had nothing but trouble since replacing my Geforce 2 Ultra with the
Geforce 3. Nothing runs as good as it did before, GPL, locks up after every
race, and N4 looks horrible now compaired to the G2 Ultra. I have tried
every driver out.
Its the Asus V8200 Deluxe, works ok with the NVIDIA drivers , but then I
loose all the functions I bought the card for to start with. Asus put out
some new drivers based on the 12.60, but it does not help.

Sorry you're having that trouble.  I'm not.

But my question is, why did you feel it necessary to replace a GF2 Ultra in
the first place?

I upgraded from a GF256 32mb SDR, and for the most part stuff doesn't look
much better than it already did, other than that I can run with a few more
graphical goodies turned on.  But the speed increase is . . . is . . . well
it's big!  I can't imagine you'd even gained much speed or graphicswise with
the upgrade.

If it's any consolation to you, I've read the forums, boards, and techie
websites a lot since getting the GF3, and it seems to me that a lot of
people experiencing seemingly similar problems to yours are finding their
solutions in motherboard settings tweaking and chipset driver upgrades and
such.

I just installed the VisionTek GeForce3 card on my PIII500.  I now get
full frame rate on GPL with all detail and effects turned on, except
when a _bunch_ of cars enter my field of view. No problems except that
when I leave the track and go back to the setup screens, the screen
flashes until I click something. With an up-to-date PC it should
really rock.

Where do you get those Asus 12.60 drivers? I never saw them on their
U.S. website.

Hmmm--
Same video card and overclocked to 933mhz, but at have to crank details to
50% and effects to cars/track in mirrors to get close to full fps at _start_
of race(s).  What geforce settings do you use?  Do you use stock tracks and
racers?  I'm curious..looking for maximum fps too...

I didn't do anything in particular to the GeForce.  My desktop
settings are 1280x1024, 32 bit color, but that shouldn't affect GPL.
I did get the D3D GP drivers, rather than the OpenGL patch.  When you
go to the Options-Graphics screen in GPL it should say Direct3D7,
right?  I'm running it at 1600x1200 resolution, full detail.  Getting
the latest Nvidia driver doesn't hurt, either.

Don't run your desktop at 32bit while playing games. It can adversely
affect the frame rate. Unless of course you are playing a game in
32bit.

using  for my GF2GTS'Pro?? Tia.. on all info & help!!

Yup, I'm running the new D3D driver for GPL as well as the 12.60 drivers for
the card.  Granted, I've got a bunch of card goodies turned on (2x AA,
Ansio, etc) but I'm at 1152x864 for resolution.  I'm curious, what is your
fps at, say Monza, with 19 cars at the starting line with your setup?  I'll
set mine up with your settings and check this out too.

They are for the V7xx and V8xxx series (GF3). Is your card an Asus? I
don't know if they are better than 6.50 because I have never tried
those drivers, but usually the more recent drivers fix problems you
may have with some games. They may be faster too.
