Hi folks,

we've been having good fun with the F1 Legends mod (GPL conversion) for
rFactor over the weekend. Cars seem a bit too fast, but very drivable
and great for close and exciting online racing. You can grab a copy over
at http://www.racesimcentral.net/
a "modern" sim, but I do miss those grunty engine sounds ;-)

All the best, uwe

Thanks will check it out later. You mean for rFactor v1.250 right and not
1.1? There was a 1.150 but no 1.1.

I believe the name of the mod is F1 Classics, not F1 Legends, but I
could be wrong, of course. Personally I stopped the rfactor mod
chasing, so I skip this one. Thanks to Uwe for the notification,
though.

Cheers!

I never did get it because I can't be arsed to register to download it. Put
it up at rFactor Central where I am already registered and I will download
it.

I think there's a version up on rapidshare, too.

Seems like a decent mod, but they've apparently "fixed" the tire model
so that it's harder to slide the car around corners. I ran a few laps
at the 67 Spa track (which, if IIRC, was taken from GPL) and found
that I was many seconds faster in the Ferrari than I ever managed in
GPL. I also found that there was *way* too much steering input and I
couldn't for the life of me figure out how to dial it out of the
setup.

Even with castor turned down to about .5, I was really unable to hold
the car in a straight line for any length of time, and the slightest
wiggle of the back end resulted in heavy oversteer -- leading
inevitably to the nearest fence or building. <sigh> I must admit that
it might be the RealFeel FFB that could be throwing things off.  I
also should admit that I know diddly-squat about setups, although I
can get a modern mod to at least steer properly (that's "properly" in
my own opinion, of course.)

I'd be interested in trying out any setups that anyone else has worked
up... As it is, I just find it's too much work trying to keep the car
going where I want it to. Maybe an online race would reinvoke some of
that old GPL e***ment though.

==========
The only thing I can add is that it drove well for me at the 'ring. I raised
the ride height quite a bit because it was really twitchy if you touched a
curb. It took speed well, and did 8:30's right out of the box on the full
Nordschleife ring with only the ride height and gear ratio changes. I don't
recall tweaking pneumatic trail to soften the response, but I might have.

Now that's weird, I am using realfeel ffb too, but I have no problems
keeping the car straight at high speed (Kya s/f comes to mind, I haven't
tested Spa yet). The cars are way faster than their GPL counterparts,
so much is certain.

Racing these cars online is a blast, they allow for really close
battling without GPLs rocket launcher feature at the smallest contact
which is a plus ;-)

All the best, uwe

Didn't they release something like this before and it was promptly given a
cease & desist?

Lowering caster will make the car more unstable.  Adding caster adds
straight line stability to the steering.

Hmmm. OK, I'll believe you and try cranking the caster back up again.

Can't make it any worse (I hope).

I had to adjust my FF from -100 to +100 with RealFeel in the RF Options.
