> I am not sure how Bittorrent works on less popular/older files

Not really its purpose, I imagine. I think BT is a superb solution to the
main problem with newly released demos, patches, etc. which is that you
get a DL speed of about 1k a week even if you can get to the file in the
first place. Once that initial peak's over (first few days I imagine)
there will be fewer people sharing via BT and the main DL sites can take
up the slack having saved a whole heap of bandwidth. Seems to me like
everyone wins.

It must not like "low-end" graphics cards, as I found the visuals decidedly
worse than NFS:PU.  I'm only running a 1GHz notebook with a 32Mb GeForce2Go,
but I was rather disappointed.  I found it novel for the first day or so to
drive around the boundless map and see where I get to, but the driving feel
was, for me, far behind NFS:PU and eventually it ended up in the trash bin.

bin.

Yes, unfortunately if your graphics card doesn't support pixel/vertex
shaders the game looks well below average.  Geforce2s and Geforce4 MXs don't
have shaders.  On a 1GHz laptop with a 32Mb GF2Go the graphics would be so
slow that it would be nearly impossible to tell what the handling is like.
I can assure you though, if you've got 2GHz+ CPU and a GF4Ti+ then this game
is a NFS:PU killer. (As long as you run it in 100% simulation mode)

The driving model doesn't feel as good to me...but more importantly I
*really* cannot get on with the menu system.

<rant>

JUST LET ME USE MY *?!%ING MOUSE, OK ?

I feel better now.  Thanks.

Turn the simulation option to 100%.  The physics are different to NFS:PU -
certainly not worse from a technical standpoint.  Both games are arcade in
nature though with physics that are just realistic enough to be fun.

I don't find using arrow keys to be that difficult.

I get 40fps, so I think I can adequately gauge the handling.

I'll try that.  May not have found that menu option due to the (IMHO)
terrible interface.

Maybe not, but using home, delete etc. as well really makes it un
intuitive to me.  Can it *really* be that hard to add mouse support?

If I'd wanted a games console, I'd have bought a games console......

Yeah, I guess with no AI cars and low detail you could get that.  So what
exactly about the handling is far worse than NFSPU?

Yes, 100%.  To be fair, I reloaded NFS:PU last night to see if I was seeing
the world through the rose-tinted which time tends to cast over our eyes.
Some cars in NFS:PU have waay too much grip (almost all the modern era cars)
and the game takes on a decidedly arcade feel.  However, most of my fun with
NFS:PU was in the 550 Spyder, the late-60s 911S or the 356 Carrera, and all
these cars still feel quite good the way the handle, slide, recover.
Handling on the skidpad is also quite convincing in NFS:PU.

I tried the various cars in the Mercedes demo but wasn't too e***d by it
all.  The SLR just gripped and gripped and gripped.  Perhaps they put some
modern P-Zeros onto it, and swapped out the 50s era suspension for something
more modern.  Just an opinion, of course.

Overall, my preference for a current driving sim is still LFS.  Nice
visuals, realistic environments, great track design and good frame rates on
average machines.

I've never heard anybody say that about LFS before. : )
