Errr.. perhaps I was trying to be cynical?

>How much of a sim it is I have no idea yet.

Today I spent a couple of hours on it. First impressions were bad.
Very clumsy menu, major sound stuttering, during the first race on a
track called  'Area 51' the sky was cluttered with UFOs, balloons and
airplanes flying 100m above the ground..

But, more importantly, the driving itself didn't feel bad at all.
So first of all I installed the latest SBLive drivers to get rid of
the stuttering. It helped partially - first there is the crackling,
after a second or 10 I hear a popping sound and then all of a sudden
the crackling is totally gone. Weird.

I tried some other tracks, and they were much better than that Area 51
track. Especially the Alps track was beautifull. Big spaces to race on
(6x6miles) with different circuits and routes setup in each area. 7
areas in total, with a total of 120 different routes and tracks.

The first cars you can drive are slooooow. Also the gearing seems
strange, I drive 140km/h in 3rd before it redlines.. but when you get
the faster cars, the whole thing becomes funfunfun.
World racing is sliding paradise! A nice feature is that the computer
gives you comments about your driving. Its nice to see COOL SLIDING!
after you did a really cool sliding :))

All in all, a very enjoyable game allthough it has quite some
shortcomings and bugs. One thing I would like to see in a patch is
more graphic options, you can hardly set anything on or off in this
game. And during some extreme situations the fps drops a little bit
too much on my system. I'd also like to be able to turn those annoying
UFO's and ***like that off.

Bottom line: having much fun with it, definately going to buy it.

>Agreed.  Looks like the Mercedes version of NFS:PU.  Graphics are
>gorgeous and my wheel works perfectly. :)

Hmmm, somehow it seems the graphics on my PC aren't working right, then.
They appear as if it were using software rendering (though it isn't).
I'm suspecting that, though the readme file specifies a 32MB video
card as a minimum, in practice it may require at least 64MB to properly
display the textures...

OTOH, it seems there are two different demos, one is ~62MB while the other
is ~83MB. Does nayone know the difference between them (currently, I've
installed the smaller one).

Anyone having problems configuring their wheel? It doesn't seem to be
recognizing my TSW with split axis properly.

The reflections on the hood do look a little crude to me, but the rest of it
looks pretty good.  I'm using a 128 meg Ti 4200.  I have the ~62 mb demo
file, haven't seen the other one.

I've been trying to download it for days.  All dead links, except for
Austrailia, which never does anything.

Whatever the Bittorrent thing is, I'll pass.

Bittorrent is cool, it is like a peer to peer system whereby you share
the file you are downloading with others while your download is
running, and everyone grabs different pieces from everyone else. The
Bittorrent software puts all the pieces together and verifies the
integrity of the file.

You'r refering to the links at 3dgamers, right? I had the same problem...
So I went to PCGameWorld instead:

http://www.pcgameworld.com/download.php/id/4488/folder/demos/filename...

There are several other links there, I downloaded from this one:

http://ftp.sunet.se/pub/pc/games/pcgameworld/demos/world_racing_demo.exe

Yeah but if you don't have a URL that works, then 2 tin cans and a bit
of string performs just as well.

The idea of Bittorrent is that it shares the load of popular downloads
round the net rather than hammering the main download sites.

Your 3mbit pipe does no good if all you've got are dead links wiseguy....

So, if you are looking for something that isn't popular, you're screwed?

I am not sure how Bittorrent works on less popular/older files. All I
know is that I have been pleased with it for the files I have tried,
its a clever program.
