GTR and Starforce

Just downloaded the demo for GTR but reluctant to install because of
Starforce copy protection. Is it safe to install the demo?
I would appreciate any feedback about this issue.
TIA

I would not think the demo is starforce infected, but a google search
might get you going.

Get GTR2 or Race 07 both are better imo, and no starforce!

It is, and personally I would not touch it.

You can get a Starforce removal tool from their website if you want to
check it out and then uninstall Starforce. But like has already been
said, buying GTR2 instead is the better option.

I really don't see what all the hype and issues are over Starforce......
Would someone please tell me exactly what the problem is with "Starforce" ?
If it's a copyright  issue... that prevents you from copying the original
disk, and circumvent the developers license requirements... I don't have an
issue with that, and neither should anyone else.

My guess is that there's an element who likes the applications to be
pirate-able and have spread rumours about horror stories to discourage
use of protection software.  I have no proof of that and there is a
slight chance that there's been trouble with Starforce, but I doubt
it.  I'd guess that the protection software has been tested enough
that it's known to not maliciously eat up people's computers.

I guess that's why so many companies have dropped it from their products.

It's all the users fault!

I hate bullshit assumptions, and this is one of the worst one's.

You're right. Software always works, dammit! And it's tested, too!

You're the perfect customer... ;)

My computer is not up to GTR2 and that is why I wanted to try GTR. Think
I'll pass on it.
However, I did buy RACE07 and really like it...even if I have to turn down
the  graphics....a lot
Quick question on that subject.

My PC is a DELL P4 3.00 GHz with 2 GB RAM. Video card is ATI Radeon 9800 128
MB RAM with latest drivers.
Will an Nvidia card such as the Asus N8600GTS Silent (256 MB 8600 GTS) make
an appreciable difference in my ability to dial up the graphics level?

TIA

Yes!

Your PC is faster than mine, except for your graphics card.  Mine is a
Nvidia 6800 GT 256mb (several years old), and I'm able to run GTR2
with most graphic options on full or high.  That ATI 9800 is
definitely a bottleneck at the moment for you.

Lots of proof out there that prove your doubts are wrong. Stopping
virtual DVD images from working is reason enough to not use it. I don't
use virtual drives but it's the principal of the matter that gets me
riled up. They have no right, legal or otherwise, to mess up utilities
like Daemon tools from working. There are legit reasons to use such
tools besides piracy. Starforce is not the only CP that messes up progs
like that but and they are all a poxy bastards for thinking they have
the right to hijack our PC's. There is strong evidence to suggest that
Starforce can cause burners to stop being able to burn too. In fact I
highly suspect Starforce of damaging tow of my burners. I have Starforce
installed right now but is the non optical drive version.

Yea, you just need a faster video card. If you can run Race07 you can
easily run GTR2. I have GTR and GTR2 and I don't think GTR2 has any more
hardware requirements than GTR2. But then I can't compare because I
refuse to install optical drive version of Starforce.

Maybe I'm running a different version of starforce to everyone
else, but I've not had DVD drives self-destruct and Daemon Tools
works perfectly fine for me.

There have been times that starforce has taken at least a minute
to validate a disk, particularly GTL, but that's as painful as
it's gotten for me at least.

Cheers,
Rod.
