Driving Technique for F1RC? Need to cut seconds...

by Ian » Tue, 08 May 2001 04:53:21

with all the technical discussions related to the game, what is the
general feeling then.  Is it a sim or not?  How do people rate it
against the other f1 sims / games.

My personal feeling is that I like the way the game *feels*.  I can't
say more than that.  Hotlapping against a ghost is a blast and the
tracks look awesome.

I never liked F12000CS and been playing GP3 with the 98meg 2001 addon
from www.grand-prix-3.de until now.  I bought F1RC and Nascar 4 'bout
a week ago and haven't touched anything else (including GPL) since
then.

Bottom line, I like it.  Hope the patch allows more than 1 ghost to be
active (a la POD).  I don't mind the AI, except they are 2 slow on the
2 lower difficulty settings, but that's my opinion as I am mostly
hotlapping anyway.

My only negative I can think of is that I don't think the tracks of
any of the ubisoft games have ever been decoded as much as the
Papyrus/ Microprose ones and I wonder if we are going to see
modifications to the track layouts(monza) or new circuits(indy).

Regards all?

1. No updates, just by training, and adjusting the gears and wings for the
track.
2. Penalties are given even in hotlapping, if you didn't know.
3. I don't want to be close to the others, cos they dont see me and run in
to me...
Thats why i hotlap, which is a blast. The meaning of hotlapping is not to
race a full race, but rather to do a fast lap. That's why I dont bother
crashing into the fence in the 1'st curve 6 times in a row just to test if I
can brake at a certain point...

((will hotlap until decent AI is released) OR (i get 10mb/s at home (which
is not in a near future).))

ahh.. ok... i downloaded a few gp2 hotlaps a few years back, and they were
utterly ridiculous... missing chicanes altogether... running zero wing,
driving straight thru gravel etc

i think leaving the setups standard would be a better absolute measure
between drivers.. of course, they're a few seconds down some of the times

Not quite sure what you mean here...?  Why would anyone WANT to crash 6 times
in a row...?
I guess I need some sleep, because I'm missing something here.

These weren't running the "one wheel on the tarmac at all times" rule, then?

Except that a) some of us enjoy the challenge of optimising setup, too and
b) the default setups may suit some drivers more than others, which isn't
particularly fair.

Initially the physics felt 'off' to me, having spent quite a while with GPL
and N4.  Having never driven an F1 car though, I have no idea which sim gets
it the most right.  I thought the braking distances in GP3 were ridiculously
short, and they feel a bit on the short side with F1RC as well.  F1RC also
allows you to floor the brake pedal through most of the braking without
locking up - none of the other sims allow this.  I thought F1CS2000 came the
closest, but it also seemed the easiest to drive, which doesn't seem right.
F1RC is definately the most difficult to drive with no ABS/traction control
help on, but maybe too difficult?  Of the few attempts I've made at
completing a 5-lap race, I've only finished once.

This is all aside from the fact that I find it, by far, the most fun to
drive. :)

No less fair than people not having the ability to make a setup work for
them...

There is a slight difference between 'wanting' and 'not mind'.
Sorry about my unproper english grammar in my post (and maybe those to come
;-).
