Thx Mitch - was a lot of fun. Uwe was amazingly consistent - the gap didn't
vary by a second lap after lap after lap ... Just like the old MoG days. I
must admit though, I had forgotten just how unstable these damn things
were - scared myself to death several times ;)

Thanks Neil and Mitch. This was my first ever full length GP, and
looking at the stats it is hard to believe we raced for two straight
hours.

Neil was in control throughout the race though and kept a good pace
until the very end. He went wide at bit before entering the 90 on lap
two or three, and that was realistically my only chance to pull close,
great job Neil!

Also thanks to Mark Seery who I probably scared shitless when moving
over to the right of the track to let him by into 2nd place early on
in the race. No harm was done or meant, but still sorry for the
unexpected move Mark! You would have been way up there if you had
finished the race in your red thundering steed.

I managed to beat up my steering by juuust clipping the guardrail in
the esses (dont we all ;-) and really had to fight to drive the
Brabham home, but man I did it and am way proud of it! Two hours of
GPL!!!

After extracting myself from my bent-up office chair, my wife had one
sentence for me: "You're crazy." 8)

Cheers to all who participated and eased the pain by sharing it,
esp. Neil and Jan. The boys and the men, remember? And of course
eldi-mate for hosting this monster of a race.

This race has prepared me for what's to come: watching RotK with my
near-13 year old tomorrow at the local cinema ;-)

screen button produces 0 byte sized files in GPL 8(

You sure had speed in the early going... after about 10 laps I was losing 1
to 2 seconds per lap and I started thinking "I have to contain this somehow
or I'll get lapped by everyone ahead of me!" from then on it was just
push-push-push!! -Ye gods, where are the days you just had to stay on the
road to finish well in these things? -As of lap 12, I think, I was driving
100% all the time. E.g., when Neil came up to lap me, I had to devote some
attention to his closure rate in order not to trip him up. I promptly locked
up going over the hump braking for The Loop and backed it into the straw
bales (luckily with minimum damage). Looking at the lap data, on average, I
lapped about 0.5s quicker than I was planning to and still got completely
outclassed. That's bearable if you're actually racing some of the other
competitors, but when the only guys you're racing are ahead and pulling away
108 laps is a long haul!

The car didn't help matters either, as it gave me all kinds of grief (one
lap it wouldn't turn, the next it overresponded etc...). I'd need to be able
to have 53,5% front brake bias and another 0,5 click of rebound all round to
make this setup comfortable. The shock situation is not too bad to live with
(only scary if you get in a bit too hot), but the brake bias thing is giving
me fits. 53% is too little for a full tank (rear wheels lock first if you
brake hard), but if I put in 54% I get inside front lock-ups about 20 laps
into a GP. So I thought I'd live with the 53% until the car "came in". Thing
is: it never did. Very strange as 53% works well if you start the car off
on, say, 15 gallons of fuel, but I kept having rear brake and rear tire drag
issues until the very last laps of the race having started it with 43
gallons.

Anyhow, good race, pity about the grid size and the number of DNFs. Thanks

The car gets higher as you use fuel, but your initial ride height is set
with respect to your current fuel load.  So at the end of the race your 43
gal. setup should feel about the same as if you started with 15 gal. of fuel
and perhaps a half inch higher ride height.  Higher CG requires more front
brake bias.
