Dave,
The term "WRAM" doesn't mean that it's only usable under Windows.  It's
just a different type of video memory.  In terms of speed, the order
(from slowest to fastest) of video RAM is : DRAM, VRAM, and then WRAM.
There are some newer ones out now as well.
The Matrox has stellar Windows 2-D speed and is in the top 2 for raw
DOS speed.  But, it really can't compete with the new 3-D cards coming
out nowadays since it doesn't have any "hardware-assisted" 3-D
capabilities.
I bought the Matrox Millenium about 2 years ago and still have it and
still am very happy with it.  Matrox, as a company, is very VERY good
about updating their drivers.  Matrox also has a flash BIOS that has
been updated from version 1.8 to 2.2 since I've had it.

Good luck,
Ray

You simply watch the screen at  boot up and look for the bios revision number.

The newest stuff is SGRAM which is faster than VRAM, almost as fast as
WRAM. You can find it e.g. on the Matrox Mystique which is, as far as
2D GFX are concerned, slightly slower than the Millennium.
I forgot what "SG" stands for, though.
