I have found out that a representative of Simulation Syustems will be
speaking and giving a product demonstration at the regional SCCA
meeting in Rockville, MD on December 13th.  If anyone is near there
here in the group and wants to see the ACP live they can show up
to the meeting.

I do not work for them, just a satified user.

The "ACP"?  What is it?  Never heard of it.... better than a
Thrustmaster T1?  Price?  Semi-automatic shifting (a la "Virtua
Racing" by Sega)?  Feel?  Compatible with all the standard games?
Just wondering, as I'm looking at buying a wheel pretty quick here
myself....  And Rockville, MD, is a bit far to drive to see it :-) .
Any info appreciated...

I haven't seen Virtua Racing yet but I can tell you I have an ACP and am very
happy with it.  Looked at the T1 and did not like the pedals or having to use
suction cups or velcro to hold the thing down.  With the ACP, pedals and wheels
are mounted on a freestanding, adjustable frame.  It is all metal, with
non-skid material on the pedals.  The wheel has a better feel than the
T1 (imho) but the real beauty of the ACP is that it has push button shifting
ala current F1 practice.  I regularly use WC, ICR, and now NASCAR with it and
have a ball.  It does cost more, take up more space than the T1 and is no doubt
heavier, but, to me, it is worth it!  BTW, I have found that with the ACP and
flight sticks it was a pain to change cords all the time - got a goody called
the Joyswitch (from Check Six) - now all I have to do is flip a dial to get the
controller I want - check it out!

---Yeah, I too have looked at the T1 and it just doesn't do it for me... I
hate to spend a lot of money on something that isn't quite what I want.

---Yes!  The lack of "push-button" / semi-automatic shifting was another
thing that I didn't like about the T1, and it's something I'd really like to
have...

---Well, really it sounds like exactly what I've been looking for... it's
good to hear it'll work with all three of my favorite games.   Only thing
is..... where did you get it?  Until I read the original post today I had
never even heard of it, and there certainly aren't any available locally
(in Tucson).  Any mail-order places you know of that have it?   Thanks
a lot for the information (about the "Joyswitch" also - sounds like a
good idea!)...  I was right on the verge of ordering a T1, but will hold
off now I think!

I got mine from Chips & Bits (800-699-4263) when they first came out but have
not seen them advertised recently.  I have seen some people in the group
getting them direct from the manufacturer (Simulation Systems in San Jose, CA
(sorry couldn't find the phone number).  As for the Joyswitch (JS), I got it by
ordering it from the Check Six BBS (maybe some netter has the number there - I

control 4 sticks and 2 foot controls in any combination.  One of the stick
ports (#4) is 'powered' for use by the ThrustMaster throttle.  The JS plugs
into port 4.  Now, the tech at the company, did tell me that they were
upgrading the JS to include all 4 ports being 'powered' - don't know if they
have done that yet or not.  I did initially have a problem with getting NASCAR
to work with the ACP - it would not see the pedals (had the same problem with
the demo too).  Solved that by copying the control.cfg file from IndyCar to
NASCAR - works fine!  Good luck - have fun racing!
