F1cs fuel multiplyers?

by Dave Henri » Sat, 27 Jan 2001 16:04:58

Last night I tried a 51% race at Silverstone.  Instead of 60 laps, it was
30.
So I set the tires and fuel to x2.  I assumed that x2 meant 'times' two.(or
twice as much...)  but this is what happened.
I had a 2 stop strategy, so I set the starting fuel to go 10 laps and had
that much planned for each pitstop.  However as soon as the race began, the
telemetry on the wheel showed I only had enough fuel for 8 laps.   With the
light fuel load I ran away from the pack.  Pitted on lap 8 and rejoined in
4th.
several laps later, I caught the leaders and also spun, hitting the armco
and destroyed the front wing.  I went back to the pits.  I adjusted the
amount of fuel to try and go the last 23 laps on one tank, but the ingame
menu showed I'd be two laps short.  So I came out buried in the pack with a
FULL load of fuel and very very slow.  In fact I had enough gas to run to
the finish, with two laps to spare, but my tires (even tho the green bars
were still tall) gave up with about 4 laps to go.  One last pitstop(in 10th
at the time) for tires only and I finished 19th.
So what do the tire and gas mulitplyers mean?  is x2 more like reducing
the fuel load 20%?  would I need to go to x5 to approximate using fuel and
tires
for a 50% race distance?    I'm just curious...I see that the setup and
incar computers don't take into account the tire and fuel multiplyers so
that is something I will have to adjust manually.  But I just want to know
if the x2 etc is like .20 or 1/2 like I thought it was.  If x2 does mean 1/2
then a 10 lap fuel setting "should" equal 5 laps in a race and that didnt'
happen.

I do 26% races with 4x multiplyers and it seems to work fairly well.

the

Then I would quit the race and restart with a bit more fuel. Keep adjusting
until you get the right amount, then race.

It should be exactly what you originally thought. 5x uses fuel and tire wear
at 5 times normal.

I am curious what you meant, by having to adjust manually. the Tire
wear and fuel consumption multiplyers apply for your car and the
computer AI cars. And it has always worked fairly well. In fact the
computer AI seems to get worse gas milage than I do and seems
to have to pit earlier than I do.

Well, according to the manual it's simply a multiplier: "Use this option to
set fuel consumption [tire wear, mechanical failures] from nothing to
factors of up to 7 times that found in real life Formula One racing" (15).

Sounds like it may not be implemented very accurately, however.

"Greg Cisko> I am curious what you meant, by having to adjust manually. the
Tire
Because of the damage so soon after my first pitstop,  I knew that If I
still wanted to run  only two stops, I'd have to get tons of fuel.  So I
used the ` key to call for  a pitstop, then the tab key to adjust the fuel.
After pounding on the
right arrow key to increase the fuel(while still trying to drive a noseless
car to the pits) I got it up to the max ...and the oncsreen window still
showed I was two laps short.   Thats what I meant by manualy,  when I bring
the x factors into play, the computer doesn't adjust it's estimates.  It
still bases it's
calculations on the x1 fuel and tire consumption(I think!)

Well IGNORE all my ramblings.  I hadn't saved the setup and when I went
back to check things out...the pitstops were all planned for 8 laps..
so..the computer automatically adjusts itself so if I use the x2 or x4 etc
settings, then the computer properly figures out how many laps for each
gallon.
DOH!  Sorry to have wasted the bandwidth..

No problem. Operator error makes sense to me :-)
