I don't have the utility that allows comparing your lap time with a
replay.  Where can I get it. Thanks.

Yea, i'd have to agree, nut in the meantime you could try a couple of things.
For one, since you are going to get a new video card, go ahead. My guess is a
V3 2000 for good performance for the dollar. Then you might pop that ram in
there but make sure you can take it with you when you get a whole new puter.
And of course you could check into overclocking your cpu, if your mobo allows
you can crank a 200mmx to as high as 290 but 250-266 is a good #.
This might get you by for a while.

Well... I ran it with a PII 300 and 128 mb ram and it did NOT run smooth.
I upgraded to a PIII 500 and now it rocks... in 640 x 480... but I have the
CPU set at 66mhz at the moment because of my old ram.

Wow I have a P233 with 64mb ram and a Voodoo 3 2000 and the game runs
just fine on my system. The mouse is a bit slow in the menu areas but
when I'm racing (All graphics turned on - 39 cars ahead, 12 behind -
81024x768) its smooth as silk...........

Just to add to this:
K6-233, 64Mb, Diamond Fusion 16.
At 800x600x16, 39 car field at C***te, 12 ahead 4 behind:
with no cars in front of me, 20(23) FPS, with field in front of me (those 12 cars)
10(11).

I think everyone should be required to give FPS along with opinions on how smooth the game is.
I know my performance (above) is satisfactory for me. For some *** simmers it means UPGRADE!.
After hearing how PIII 500Mhz beasts are still getting unsatisfactory performance, it scares us
little fish.

I went from a tweaked to the gills v2 p200mmx with 96mb ram to a p3 500 tnt2
ultra v2 128mb system. I could run n3 on my 200mmx with very little on, a
tight as hell car and not so good frame rates. it was very frustrating and I
bought the new puter. Now it runs smooth as hell with everything on
including f2 enter, that's a big + for me. I like to know if I should run
hard as hell with cars around me. a 200 is getting old, I had mine about 3
1/2 years and it wouldn't keep up anymore. save the money and look at p3 500
or so, 550 and 600 are still more expensive. a 500 will rock with the right
vid cards for a long time

Forget the PIII 500.  Get a Kryotech 1000 mhz Athlon.
Then you'll be ready for N4 and Win2000.
