...Until I tried Detroit ! This track is unbelievably hard. The best I
can manage is 1:18'754 and that was a "freak" lap where I got a good
line through most of the turns.

I am at my wits end with this track. Any hints and/or setups from the
ICR2 driving Gods out there would be greatly appreciated - I will be
your friend for ever and ever and ever :)

Glenn, you're not gonna like this.....Practice, then practice some more,
go watch TV, practice more, kick the cat in frustration, practice a bit
more.

It took me AGES to get below 1:20, but now I can run 1:13s pretty
consistently and hotlap is around 1:12.5xx or so. You can get a good
setup from Doug Arnao's homepage (check the links section of Sim Racing
News at the URL below) and take it from there.

It's not like most tracks where there are one or two key corners to get
right, at Detroit EVERYTHING must be right. Try to get into a rythmn and
just snick of tenths per lap, brake a little later at each corner until
you find the limit. Try taking one corner at a time and concentrate on
it until it's perfect and you come out correctly setup for the following
corner. Then practice that corner, lap after lap concentrating on it. It
will work out, you should be running 1:15s or so pretty soon.

Give me a shout if you want any help.

Cheers!
John

If I had a cat, it would surely be very dead by now*....

After *much* practice and using the setups on Doug Arnao's home page
and one sent to me via e-mail I've managed to get down to 1'14.843.
The trick to this track (probably like every other track in ICR2)
seems to be entry speed into the turns. On a few of the turns it seems
quicker to change down to 1st going in, keeping the revs high, and
accelerate cleanly away. The bits which gives me most grief are the
last two turns - I've yet to find a line I'm happy with round there.
These Americans will insist on racing in concrete corridors, won't
they ? :)

With Doug's setup, I've gotten down to 1:14:535, but I'm still searching for
more.  I love this track.  But you're right, it seems like the last two turns
can make or break you!  Now back for more practice laps!

Are we talking Detroit here?  I'm down to a 1:13.4 with slightly modified
fast setup.
