Problems with ICR2 DOS to Win95 Patch

by Norm & Tami Loewe » Mon, 13 Jan 1997 04:00:00

Anybody else encountered problems with the Win95 patch???I just recently
installed the patch to convert my DOS IndyCar Racing 2 game to the Win
95 format. Everything works find...including the Paintshop but when I go
to race on a circuit or any driving for that matter and the game crashes
and I get the message I pasted below, anybody know what all that ***
means...besides raceday is rained out??? :) . I am running a Pentium 100
with 16 megs, Matrox Mystique 3D video card, AWE32 sound blaster, and of
course Win95. My DOS version was patched the way the readme stated and I
followed the directions completely as well as tried it again on a
completely clean game install. Any help would be great.

Problems with ICR2 DOS to Win95 Patch

I tried to use the patch on my own machine (Micron Millenia P133, 32 Megs
RAM, Diamond Stealth 64 video) and my brother's machine (Packard Bell
P100, 16 Megs RAM, whatever the heck video PB uses...)... both times, when
I went to race, the computer just locked up... As you experienced, the
paint kit worked fine... Anyway, I figured to heck with it, and went back
to ver 1.02... you did save a backup copy of your version 1.02 directory,
didn't you? :-)

BTW, the patching process was the biggest pain in the arse I've ever
experienced updating software... I've usually been real happy with
Papyrus, but they blew it on this one... I mean, really - why is it so
friggin' important for the drivers2.txt file to be original before the
patch can be applied??? So warn me and get on with the patch already,
would you?? Sheesh....

Sorry to rant...

- Mike.

Problems with ICR2 DOS to Win95 Patch

by Ian Greenwoo » Thu, 16 Jan 1997 04:00:00

Last weekend I installed firstly the ICR 1.0.0 to 1.0.2 DOS patch and
then on top of that the Win 95 patch.

My general findings are as follows:

1. Under DOS, the cars seem faster and more stable, and I am faster
using my saved setups, and seem to be lapping quicker than before,
more competitive , etc.

2. Under Windows 95, obviously things are a bit slower, my only
concern so far is that the machine is writing to the hard drive at
times, e.g. when I accelerate out of pit lane and pass other cars.
Anyone know hat might be causing this - it is no fun the game stopping
and re-starting in Turn 2 at Michigan !!

Also my converted NASCAR tracks (i.e. Pocono) will not work under Win
95.

Papyrus just got back to me and said to shut off the DirectSound option
in the game so I am off to try that now...let me know if it works for
you.
