ICR2 DOS TO WIN95 PATCH

by SirW » Sun, 15 Sep 1996 04:00:00

I've downloaded the patch, followed carefully the instruction. The
game loads but everytime I want to go to a track the game
crashes...anybody got an idea on what the problem could be?

Thanks

I've been having the same problem but don't know an answer.

I have a Pentium 120 Overdrive, 24 MB of RAM, an ATI Mach64
with 2MB of VRAM, an original Soundblaster, and a Thrustmaster
T1. It will crash if I try and go to any of the tracks, and it
will crash if I try to go to the sound options.

The intro plays just fine, including the sound, and all of the
tests confirm that everything should be OK. I have the
latest ATI drivers, and every other DirectX app has
run OK, so I'm at a loss as to what the problem is.

I even went back and installed the DOS version from
scatch, ran the conversion to version 1.0.2, and then
ran the Win95 patch, and still no luck.

I had a couple of problems installing, but I reran the install a few times
after moving some files around, and got it to work eventually.

I was actually pleasantly surprised, based on my prejudiced opinions of
Win95 as a *** platform, that ICR2WIN runs as well on my machine as it
does.  I expect that it's due in part to having 32 MB RAM, as I don't seem
to suffer from the well-documented "pauses" in the game.  No GPF's, either.

The gameplay more or less sucks, though, compared to the DOS version; lower
framerates and notchy sound are certainly no incentive for me to play it.

The paintkit will probably be the only thing that keeps it on my HD until
I get my optimized-for-Rendition version... :)

You guys aren't alone. I get a GPF the moment I try to get on the
track. Intro, sound, and setup work perectly. Even tried
reinstalling...no joy!

you're not missing much. The win95 version is slower (about 2fps) and
the
sound is even worse than the DOS version of ICR2. I went right back to
playing the DOS version. I can run it in a shell without problems
so load times from and back to win95 are the same as the win95 version.

BTW, I have a P133, ATI Mach 64 w/ latest drivers, SB16, T2.
