gtinsider has a few files in an update that give "pretty" good
sound. I've yet to hear a balanced clean complete sound list.
Everybody has different tastes. So.....you might want to try a few
different sound paks.
I think the best sounds are hidden in the GT1update1.2 file. just
unzip the wav files((NOTHING ELSE!)) into your sounds/22hz folder and
you'll get good Ferrari sounds, raspy Bmw powered McClarens. V8 sounds
are also available at several sites.
As far as the crashing goes. I'm not sure there is a fix for this at
this time. Everyone is building cars like crazy, and there is a track
effort going on, but I haven't seen any AI updates.
