new sim releases w/P233MMX?

by Bill Jone » Tue, 11 Apr 2000 04:00:00

I have the following PC setup until at least later this summer or fall:

Windows 98 SE
Pentium 233MMX
64 MB RAM
Voodoo 2 1000 PCI 12 MB
DX 7.0a
Sound Blaster Live!
Nascar Pro wheel

I can run most sims that came out before this year in single-player mode
okay, like GPL, SCGT, Viper, N3, Midtown Madness, CPR, DTR.  In GPL for
instance, I get 36 fps in training at Monza at 800x600 with most graphic
details on, and 20-30 fps in single race mode with 6 other cars.  In N3, I
get up to 20-30 fps in AI races at 800x600, with some details always on, and
some set to auto, 10 cars drawn ahead...

My question is that I was looking at some new titles recently and see that
the minimum requirements are now above what I have.  Mobil 1 Rally
Championship and F1 2000 both list a PII 266 as the minimum processor.  NFS:
PU says it will run with a Pentium 200 and 4MB 3D card, so I should be able
to run that one.

Has anyone tried running either Mobil 1 or F1 2000 on a system similar to
the one spec'd out above?  Can it be done?  Thanks.
