I'm waiting a year until it's $20. The only FPS games I will pay full
price for are the Looking Glass Studios-related ones (Thief, Theif 2,
Deus Ex, System Shock 2). Thief 3 is coming out soon, IIRC, as I
believe Deus Ex 2 is and I'm sure they'll both be 50 times the game
Wolf3D is at least. Oh yeah, the Raven games are still great too
(heck, I still play Heretic/Hexen/Hexen 2 all the time, as well as
Soldier of Fortune) and Soldier of Fortune 2 is right around the
corner.... Apparently Quake 4 is also in the works, although I'm sure
it will follow the path of suckiness pioneered by 2 and 3. Maybe it's
just me, but Carmack/Romero haven't put together a wholly good game
since they stopped working together. I will give Carmack credit for
developing top-notch FPS engines, just wish he had the creative side
too.
As far as WWII FPS stuff goes, what would be really nice is a WWII
game using the Operation Flashpoint engine. Hell, I'd pay $60 for
that.
Me too, day it came in at EB. =) I've seen it blasted in reviews for
being too similar to 1 and 2, but I couldn't disagree more. I'm
amazed that Jeff Briggs was able to add so many new gameplay elements
while keeping the balance of play almost entirely intact. I haven't
been this ***ed to a strategy game since Robot Odyssey on my apple
][.
Yeah. When it came out years ago I was going to wait for the
inevitable price drop since it looked neat, but no way now. Maybe if
I could make some German sims and import them into IL-2 to drop bombs
on or something. =)
Oh yeah, finally. People are going to *** about Nascar 2002, but
even if it's the same game repackaged I'm buying it. If Papyrus
racing sims continue selling well it just improves the odds of seeing
a new open-wheeled sim and I'm all for that. Bring on GPL 72.
