#1 Run Nascar 2 from Win95...IE 3.0 will not work after this.

Something gets corrupted in IE 3.0 when I tried to run N2 from under
Win95. I know, I know, why would I want to do this? I tried, because NRL
will be run under Win95.

Deleting and re-installing IE 3.0 did not work. I had to
backup(thankfully I have one) from tape and it worked.

I did this twice, and each time IE 3.0 would not work. I have heard from
others about having the same problem.

Anyone else have this problem?

<<I got it to work by just re-installing Internet Explorer 3.01
over top of the non-functioning version.  Still, this is a pretty huge
bug to have slipped by the Beta testers. No finger pointing or anything,
but how could this have been overlooked? Does all of Papyrus use
Netscape?>>

Just as another voice to be heard, I have to admit that I played
the N2 demo 100% from Win95 and have been playing the full version of
the game flawlessly from Win95 for the last two days. While I prefer
Netscape, I do have Internet Explorer 3.01 and have tried it out just to
make sure. I have had no problems with IE after installing and playing
N2 from/in Win95 and have even tried using it again before making this
post (from Netscape's news reader... heh, heh) just to again make sure.
No problems have been found.

I don't know if I would call that a bug.  I would call that a
blessing!!!

How did you install Nascar2, via Win95 or DOS?

OK... THat is a good reason to run N2 for Win95 :-)

How about un-installing from the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS application in the
Win95 CONTROL PANEL?

So you are saying that it does no good to "fix" this, as every time you run
N2 from WIN95 it will mess up IE3.0 again. Right? It will work if you run N2
from a DOS re-boot right?

It sounds like Papyrus does not use IE3.0 on their machines, or they have
a sobatour who is a Netscape lover :-) This is almost as good as the old
Cyrix chip & WinNT4.0 problem. With older versions of some Cyrix chips,
WinNT4.0 would disable the cache, making the Cyrix about 20-30% slower :-)

I deleted MSIE in the add delete part of win 95 and then
I downloaded version 3.01 and installed it and it seems
to be working fine now and I have played N2 out of windows since I
have installed it and it is still working

IE 3.01 will reinstall, IE 3.0 would not. Once I used 3.01 everything
works. Just won't try it through win95 again.

The problem with the bug in Internet Explorerer is a result of the Sierra
install.  There is a fix for this in development and is almost ready for
release.

Adam,

From what you're saying, this looks like a Sierra problem, so this isn't
an attempt at flaming you or Papy <g>

_However_, I find it utterly incredible that a major software house can
release software that ***s up the major free browser. Really, really
strange that no-one did any general compatibility testing.....

Cheers,
Richard

Chuck,

Papyrus is the ONLY game company I have seen that supports it's
users like this.  Good work Papyrus!

Now, if I could only get a copy of N2. :( Nobody in Des Moines, Iowa
has it...  Oh well...I'll keep waiting..

I got a question for you. Can you run Season on your NASCAR2? Every time I
try to my computer either locks up or goes hay wire and scrambels the
picture up.

Any help would be welcomed.

Or it means that Microsoft is using "hidden" codes in Win95 for their
products that the rest of the software industry aren't being told about.
It's very possible that Papyrus/Sierra followed all of the coding rules
provided them by Microsoft, but because IE3.0 uses "undocumented" code
it get's broken.  It's happened to other software developers over the
years, looks like it ain't gonna stop soon.
