GPL Crashing (the sim rather than me)

by Steve Pritcha » Mon, 01 Feb 1999 04:00:00

Hi,

Can anybody offer any advice?  I'm having problems with GPL being
unstable.  It never crashes when driving, but in the pits, or in setup
screens.  If in thepits, then the sound will continue, but the screen is
frozen.

It didn't used to be this way, but new versions of DirectX drivers get
loaded by different games, and something has gone screwy.

The one thing I have noticed that has happened since the problems began is
that there is corruption around the mouse pointer.  For Example, when the
GPL logo screen switches to the front screen (where you can pick
driver/team info, etc) there is a flickery image of the mouse pointer
which never moves (this stays where the mouse pointer was originally when
the screen was displayed).  If can also happen in car setup screens.

Sometimes when you return to the pits, the screen is corrupted with
multi-coloured ghosting of the VCR buttons.

Any ideas.  I think I might re-install Win95, but it's a bit drastic?

Cheers,

Steve.

Check the version of the glide2x.dll (it should be in the windows\system
directory).

If it's version 2.54, try putting version 2.53 of glide2x.dll in the gpl
directory.  I had GPL locking up randomly only in online races until I did
the same.

Good luck,
Brian

Brian,

I took it back to 2.53, and things did get much better.  I guess I'm going
to have to wait for either new Glide 2.x version, or a GPL patch to get
things sorted completely.

Cheers,

Steve.
