Yeah, no sound and joystick control would really suck.

I have GP2 on a pentium pro 200 w/NT 4.0, 32 mb RAM, Ensoniq Soundscape
Card, S3 VIRGE graphics, and CH Pro Wheel and Pedals.

After you have completed the following steps, GP2 runs
great "under NT":

a) make sure you have a FAT filesystem (not NTFS) on your hard drive.

b) install GP2 onto the afore mentioned FAT filesystem.

C) CREATE DOS BOOT DISK.

d) REBOOT YOUR MACHINE (with disk inserted, of course)

e) configure GP2 or your sound card.

f) start GP2 and drive like Damon Hill!!!! (or Mansell)

This sounds like a real pain in the butt, however, to the best of my
knowledge, this is the only way to run GP2 "under NT".  GP2 is a DOS
application that requires direct access to certain hardware to optimize
performance.

GP2 runs fine  on NT4.0. The only problem for me is the graphics card and the
soundcard. NT4.0 assigns my soundcard to IRQ 11 (due to the IRQ-system in
NT4.0 anyone knows more about this?) and GP2 wont detect any soundcard on an
IRQ that high. So I have no sound and no joystick. Then it seems like the
Matrox Millenium only works with GP2 in VGA-mode. Its a shame to have a
machine that would handle the game superbly in SVGA mode and not being able to
use SVGA. With alla details and textures on I get 26 FPS in VGA mode.
But no sound and no joystick makes it so unpleasant.

So my problem is not how to run GP2 with NT4.0 but how to run it with the
Millenium and the Aztech SoundGalaxy Waverider 32 3D Pro. The only thing I had
to do to make GP2 run with NT4.0 was adding the FILES=60 and BUFFERS=40 (not
necessarily that high values) to the config.nt file.

I don't think you will ever succeed in configuring sound and your
steering device because NT simply refuses any application (GP2 in casu)
to directly access the hardware. It's simply the way NT is implemented!
If anyone out here however succeeds in enabling GP2's sound underneath
NT4.0 please let me know!

Regards,

Jan.

Sorry, no need for boot disk ! The same result is, if you install DOS
BEFORE NT and then you've got the menu, where you can boot from hard disk.
