N4 patch....no!!!!!

by Colin Harri » Fri, 27 Apr 2001 05:07:45

I've installed the patch, and went to do my first online race with it, only
to be presented with a message saying that all rankings will be reset on
Monday due to the patch changing the evaluation system for points. That's
***y awful! Now I'm going to have to go back with the jerks who hang
around in 0-10 races again, grit my teeth as they drive backwards into
me....oh, and the 0-10 Bristol races......this isn't fair! The last three
weeks have been wasted!
Patently unfair, and no point doing any meaningful races online now til
Monday.

 There goes my 3,4,6,6 rating....

Bah, who needs rankings anyways. This will give you a chance to meet new
people. I think the reason for resetting the ranking is that there may have
been some flaws in the original rankings formula.

I think you're right.  They now will consider incidents that would have
caused a yellow as -3 even if yellows aren't turned on.  I think this
might be why some people have 1000 LPI ratings ;)

Jason.

In the original version of the game, you never got a incident if yellows
were turned off.

Therefore if all you ran were No-Yellow races, you would have a LPI of 1000+
easily.

The rankings have been fixed, I am glad they are doing a reset

There were other reasons as well.  LPI and incidents aside, it was too easy
to gain levels and too difficult to drop levels, which resulted in everyone
slowing migrating to the top with artificially inflated rankings.

No kidding!  That's downright RUDE of them!

2 months spent building them where they are, only to have this crapola?

At a minimum, they should 'interpolate' persons current rankings into the
new system.

I'm pissed about this.

Anybody who even guessed that a patch was comming had to see this...
Why didn't they explain the ratings??  CUz they were gonna change whenever
the patch got finished.  Why didn't they say what they were fixing?  Cuz the
list was humongous...:)
It would look bad...hehehe

Fortunately the patch worked easily with the daemon install.  thanks again
Larry.
I for one...am of the opinion that rankings can be carved in stone too
easily.  I feel
the rankings should be reset from time to time just to clean out the lists.
Fairly early
on, the slugs start avoiding ranked races and the speedmeisters start piling
up the points.
They get so ridiculously high that no new user has a hope of gaining that
much, so they
tend not to put any effort into raising their ratings...
Now I'm not saying reset them every month or anything, but maybe every
year, clean em out and start fresh.

I agree with you here. Those rankings should be reset. I also think that
by taking the wall riders out we'll have a better system!

<Rant>

I think they've overdone it with the sensitivities used to calculate the
LPI though.  Big Time.  :-|  There was a big wreck half a backstretch
ahead of me last night at Daytona.  Lifted off the throttle & peered
through all the smoke to find a little hole I may get through
undamaged.  Just before I get there, some guy goes airborne & is
flipping & it *just* grazes the very top of my roof.  Not even enough to
cause any damage to my car, & I certainly wasn't involved in any other
way in any kind of a racing incident.  But my LPI got charged.  :-[  I
agree something needed to be done but it's easy to get grazed by
somebody else & if no damage is even caused in such a case I don't think
your LPI should be charged...

Yes, it's been adressed in the patch. Wall riding will slow you down
considerably and will not be of any benefit anymore.
