OT: German Grand Prix (spoilers)

Hi,

This was the most exciting grand prix I've watched for quite some time:

1) Hakkinen's brilliant start. I've never seen a better start than that.
2) Coulthard's *** move on Schumacher, though I can accept his
explanation for that, given in the post-race conference.
3) Schumacher and Fisichella come to grief on the first turn! I would put
the blame mostly on Schumacher, but reserve a little blame for Fisichella.
4) Barrichello's superb drive from 18th to 5th in the first 6 laps.
5) Frentzen also excellent moving from 17th to 6th in 11 laps.
6) Madman on track at 26th lap! Safety car comes out, and field bunches
together again.
7) Several crashes, spinouts. Alesi's was quite spectacular, with the wheels
coming off. Safety car again.
8) Rain! Hakkinen pits immediately, Coulthard stays out for a few laps
before pitting, but Barrichello doesn't pit at all, and takes lead! Track is
wet near the stadium but dry elsewhere.
9) Barrichello wins! Frentzen unlucky. Two Mclarens 2nd and 3rd.

A great race by Barrichello. Yes, he was lucky that it rained and yet
stayed dry for most of the track, but he made the decision not to go in, and
he and his car were able to handle the tough and variable conditions on the
track. Well done Rubens!

It looked to me like an NFL running play.  Coulthard threw the block, and Mika
went for the hole in the line - beautiful!

Cost Mika the race - see comments below.

I feel that the safety car brought on by that idiot cost Mika dearly.  The
first one wiped out Mika's lead - what was it - a minute or so?  The cars were
bunched up, on cold tires, and the drivers forgot they'd have less grip.  This
led to Alesi's accident.  Without those two safety car periods, the race may
have ended before the rain became that much of a factor.  Thus, Rubens wouldn't
have stood a chance.  Don't get me wrong, it was a HELL of a drive(from 18th) -
I just think he got lucky(which is part of racing)
By the way, is Alesi ok?  It looked like he was unconscious when the car was
spinning, but that could have just been momentum pushing his head forward...

Never argue with an idiot.  He brings you down to his level, then beats you
with experience...

Well, that would only make sense if Coulthard was out of the running for
the points. Then it would be beautiful or *** depending upon your point
of view. But I believe Coulthard when he said that he had a poor start and
simply tried to stop Schumi from passing. He couldn't have known that Mika
would get such a beautiful start and pass the lot of them.

I don't know. It would be nice to know exactly what his lead was. I don't
recall it being that big, but I could be wrong.

So you're saying that the first safety period led to the second safety
period? That if the first didn't occur then the second wouldn't have
occurred either?

racing)

Oh yeah, no matter which way you look at it, he was lucky, but he did
contribute significantly to his victory.

forward...

No, he's fine, but he said it was one of the worst accidents of his life.

Basically<g>

I'd like to see Alesi have a good run, and actually be in CONTENTION.  He
always seems to have such rotten luck...

And we shouldn't forget Button's excellent first Hockenheim
drive from last on the grid (after stalling at the start of the
parade lap) to 4th!!

So would I, Jean is one of my all time fav drivers, seeing him use that
POS (at the time) Ferrari like it was a GoKart or something was really
special, the wet Nurburgring race in 95 (?) or something was great, he
started on slicks, not to mention a very special qual run in the French
GP in 94 or something, he had a HUGE slide coming onto the main
straight, I'm sure he laid 100 meters of *** from his rears (corner
taken in 4th or something ?), I'm also sure that he never even
considered lifting the throttle

At his best there's no one quite like him, too bad he stayed at Ferrari
for so long when he was at his best, rumor has it that he had an offer
to go to Williams a one point, although I can't really see Jean Alesi
and FW get along :-)

Beers and cheers
(uncle) Goy
