F1Sim Wheel and Three Axis?

F1Sim Wheel and Three Axis?

by Andy Gart » Sat, 10 Oct 1998 04:00:00

Hi all,

I'm trying to get my wheel configured to use three axis for use with
GPL.  I've opened the pedal unit up and set the switch to
position two as described in the manual.  However, the third
axis is not recognised either by the Win95 control panel
or the GPL calibration routine.

Any ideas?  Has anybody got this working?

Thanks,
Andy

Try downloading ProPanel from the Thrustmaster site and use the
Thrustmaster Formula Pro w/separate pedals setting from that.
How did you configure it to be separate - does yours have the switch
between separate and combined? Mine doesn't.

Mine neither... gits! Because of the design you can't even use an
alternate set of pedal either, which is a real b*st*rd. This kit's ok
(give or take a few annoyances) but the lack of separate brake/throttle is
unforgivable in something this price.

Mine does (are you sure your's hasn't?  It's a very small and not
very obvious switch).  I'm now working using separate axis with
both GPL and F1RS(2), using the Win95 "Thrustmaster T2
(with adapter)" and checking the "has rudder" thing.

Where is the switch, inside or outside? Mine's extremely well hidden if it's
there.

If I recall correctly the third axis appears as axis one of joystick 2,
not as axis 3 of joystick 1.

Hope this helps

If it's there it's on the wrong side of the circuit board :-)
There are two flavours of F1sim I believe. First has switch and was
produced by the original mob. The recent kit is farmed out to the bunch
mass producing them and it seems like they cut a few corners.

I may yet be proven wrong (certainly hope so!) but short of lengthy
dismantling of the pedal unit to get at the other side of the board, I'm
stuck in singleaxisville. And even if I did dismantle, I don't think I'd
find anything.

Andrew McP... having rather a lot of fun with GPL anyway

(Sorry if this appears twice, but I posted once, and it didn't appear,
to me at least).

The switch is inside the box (remove the top plate by undoing the
four screws), on the front edge of the circuit board.  It's a very
small, white plastic switch.  It wasn't obvious to me when I first
opened it up.

I have heard about these later versions without the switch though,
I bought mine just under a year ago, from PC World in Reading,
for 150.  I *thought* at the time it was one of the "mass produced"
ones, but maybe not...

On mine, it is inside (remove the top plate by undoing the four
screws).  The switch is a very small white plastic one on the
front edge of the PCB.

Shame they didn't put it outside - games like Colin McRae Rally don't
support separate axis for brake and throttle so I have to open up
the box every time I switch games...  Then again, I shouldn't
complain, at least mine has the switch (I bought the unit about
a year ago from PC World in Reading for 150 - I wonder why some
don't have it?).
