Ouch.....that hurts. The place to go for decent race coverage looks like
it's headed down the drain. Unfortunately, they won't even notice when I
cancel my subscription. It may leave an opportunity for a network to pick up
the slack (we can always hope).

I  wonder how the old broadcast team  (Varsha, Hobbs, etc.) feels. Maybe
like Howard Stern when the radio station he was working for switched to
country music.

From the article:

"We don't think it can be just NASCAR 24 hours a day out of the gate,"
Brooks says. "It will have some other racing elements. That's probably
the right mix to get us started."

In other words, they're desperate to go 100% NASCAR as soon as they can
make it pay. I feel for you :(

Thanks, Dave.  There are Yanks who really aren't
interested in watching NASCAR.  I've fallen in
love with touring and rally and it looks like
Speedvision -- which I went out of my way to
subscribe to -- is now going to be as dismal as
the broadcast channels.  ACK!

Hi,
Awh man!  My cable company just started showing SpeedVision here last Friday and really enjoyed
the variety of racing that was on this weekend!  I hope they keep the GP
motorcycle racing.  TSN used to show it here but stopped about 10 years
ago I believe, it was awesome to see them race again on Sunday night!  I like NASCAR, but
it will also be sad to see the variety go.  I would like to see a touring
car race, when is the next one on?

Later,
John

Jeez... OK, here's the edited version of this article:

blah, blah, NASCAR, blah, blah, NASCAR, blah, blah, NASCAR, blah, blah,
NASCAR, blah, blah, NASCAR, NASCAR, NASCAR.

Guess I better go to Laguna Seca for holidays next year 'cause I won't be
getting ALMS coverage on the SpeedFoxVisionNASCAR channel.

Ughh... I'm weeping... I do like to watch most of the NASCAR races and I
would like to see more of the Winston West and Busch North series, but I'm
just disgusted that there'll be no more Goodwood, Legends of Motorsport, F1
Saga, Lap of the Gods, Touring Cars, Motorsport Mundial, etc, etc... Why
does everything good always have to be destroyed by the almighty dollar?
Nuts!

Well, it was fun while it lasted, the last couple of paragraphs realy
scare me "We don't think it can be just NASCAR 24 hours a day out of
the gate," Brooks says. "It will have some other racing elements.
That's probably the right mix to get us started".  Adds Liberatore:
"We're a niche, but within that, we have to be as broad as possible.
We want to be the mall. Some go for GNC, some go for Cinnabon. You
need both." Out of gate? does this mean in a year or so it will be All
NASCAR - All the time?

And on DirecTV, we have the privilage of having to pay $10 a month extra
just to get this damned channel!

My mom gets it for free with her full-basic cable package :(

Well, it's been great while it lasted.  Live F1 races and qualifying.... 24
Hours of Daytona live... Le Mans... Sebring... Legends of Motorsports- I'll
miss them all.  It's almost like being jilted.  Or so I've heard. :-/

Look at it this way...
NBC/Fox have invested a ton of money. There is already a lot of coverage of
Nascar on the local fox affiliates.  They are going to over saturate with
Nascar to the point where people will get sick of it and start turning away.
They have already started to see this.  Attendance has been down this year
(and it wasn't just due to the loss of Earnhardt).  Like everything, it'll
peak then die.
I do lament the loss of what was finally the enthusiasts network, but that's
the way it goes in $America$!

Ya know, they could still do live F1 practice, qualifying
and racing, at 4:30 in the morning here on the west coast.

For the Western hemisphere races, U.S., Canada and Brazil,
they could play them on the local Fox sports stations, like
Fox Sports Northwest out here.

   Well, I can dream, can't I?

As much of a loss as this is for the North American viewers it must be an even
bigger loss for people that actually race at high levels. Getting sponsorship
money is hard enough as it is. Without the national tv coverage that
SpeedVision offered, atracting that advertising money is going to get a lot
harder. It's going to hurt the future prospects of many different racing
series.
