The announcers have said they will still keep bidding for the rights to
F1.  But for how long.   It seems the FIA limits the broadcast rights to 1
year contracts.  ESPN would love to have F1 back now that they have lost
CART and Nascar, but I just don't see the Disney owned network having cash
for any major purchases except NFL football.

I've given up reading minds, but... I don't know, who ever
said that didn't sound very convincing.  Did you notice that?

I think the reason attendance is down is due to the general level of
economic uncertainty driving a reduction in consumer spending, coupled
with increasing ticket prices.  When a decent seat starts costing $75
or $100, most folks start having better things to spend their money
on.

I live within an easy drive of probably 1/2 of the races, and I
haven't been to a single one in about 5 years because the ticket
prices are just ridiculous.

I don't know anyone who quit going because Earnhardt died.

I'm in the EXACT same boat as you, MrLipid.  The good news is that
once Speedvision makes the changeover, I can go with one of the lesser
subscription plans on the Dish Network and save a few bucks.

I like NASCAR, but doesn't it ALREADY get enough coverage?!?  At least I don't
have to pay extra for Speedvision.  If I did, I'd be cancelling it right now...

Yeah, I heard them talking about that on the Japan F1 telecast.  It sounded
like they were saying(between the lines) "don't hold your breath, or get your
hopes up..."

It could be argued that one of these years, we're going to get ZERO f1
coverage in USA :(  Very frickin' sad.  I'll have no reason to get up
at 4:30am to watch the euro races, or fall asleep after the start from
trying to stay awake all night.

Both ESPN and Fox and Speedvision all underestimate the fan base of F1
in America.  C'est la vie, they say :(  I'm so sick of Bernie I could
puke.  SHOW THE DIGITAL FEED IN USA ON ESPN FOREVER AND WATCH IT GROW
IN AMERICA.  It's the pinnacle of motorsport, fans will watch.

I was under the impression that it and Outdoor Life had been added to Total
Choice. I keep the $10/month sports package for the Speedvision and NASCAR
reruns on the Fox Sports Net affiliates.
