actually you missed one important rule of thumb to avoid accidents:
the overtaking driver determines the appropriate location
a lot af accidents occur because the one who is being overtaken thinks
it would be clever to give way, get earlier on the brake an the like.
this often leads to trouble when the follower isn't well prepared for
this maneuver. another thing is the main rule for racing, not only for
avoiding accidents:
don't push it!
don't start overtaking, because you think you might perhaps succeed.
chances are that you rather crash and lose some places ... the same for
the overtaken driver: if the other one is faster: better let him pass if
he tries to and see if he is so proud of his maneuver that he spins the
next turn than taking the risk of crashing both of you ... I really hate
drivers who push it the first 2 laps and disconnect after they kicked
themselves and me and out of the race!
