Carmageddon 3dfx patch problems

Is there anyone out there that has gotten the 3dfx patch for Carmageddon
(I know, it's still a beta...) to work? All I get is the rotating 3dfx logo,
and after that... nothing. Blank screen. I tried both DOS and 95 versions
with maximum install. I'm using a P200 with Monster 3D/Millennium combo
and 64 Mb of RAM. DirectX 5 is installed, as are all the latest drivers &
bioses.

Yes, I've gotten it to work fine on my 266 and R3D card (my 2D card is the STB
Nitro).  I believe I downloaded the 3Dfx patch from carmageddon.com.
I play the game after booting to MS-DOS mode.  Sorry, can't really tell you
what you're doing wrong, but just wanted to let you know that the patch does
work.  I think they will be putting out the real patch soon, after getting Carma
for Mac done.  Good luck.  Hmm... I do remember I had to move this one file
(smoke.xxx, I forget the extension) from my carma directory to the directory it
was looking for it in...  and THEN it worked.  I did get the spinning 3Dfx logo,
and then it crashed back into DOS with the error messages.  Sounds like you
didn't even get that though, huhn?  Well, maybe try downloading another copy of
the patch.  Great game.
