subject says it all. I keep hearing on how poor the sales were but doe
anyone have any real figures, how high did it appear in the charts.  Im
asking this from a UK perspective as quiote a few people i know bought the
game because F1 over here is what NASCAR is to USA, but how high did it go
in the USA too?
Also how well has it done since its release in the UK. I see some
unscrupulous retailers ie GAME have kept the price at 24.99 when it is a
budget re-release at 9.99 that cant be good?

I'm not sure it's "unscrupulous retailers", but rather small retailers that
were stuck with a sim that didn't sell, a supplier that won't allow them to
return it, and an unwillingness to operate at a loss. I know one store here in
my town with three copies on the wall at the original price...a shame. I've
been evangelising for them/him to anyone who will listen, but no sales so far.
The newly reduced price version hasn't shown up here yet, although a few
copies have turned up in the cheapies bins here and there. I've bought those
and given them as gifts after accumulating three copies to run on my home
network...8^)

Anyway, my point is, this has to say something about slow sales of the title.
What -does- burn me is the way sims like F-15 and Falcon 4.0 keep ending up in
"best of all time" lists, but GPL doesn't.

So how many copies did GPL sell?

The sales of Ubisoft's F1 Racing Simulation were less than 13,000
total in the US, according to Gamecenter.  And F1 was a lot friendlier
than GPL.  My guess would be that GPL sold fewer copies than F1RS.
(Part of this is timing.  F1RS came out earlier and did poorly.  GPL
came into the market later with a rep for being very hard to master.)

The number I heard kicked around before the recent re-release was
45,000, but I'm not sure if this is worldwide or U.S.-only sales.  I
also heard that Viper Racing was a bigger success in terms of sales for
Sierra than GPL, which may not be much of a surprise.

F1RS had also been available via mail-order for quite some time before
it was released in the States.  Many of those who "really" wanted a
modern F1 sim had purchased F1RS many, many months before it went on
sale here.   Same kind of situation as Toca2/Touring Car Challenge

Thanks for clearing that up. I was wondering why a game that only sold
13,000 copies wound up getting a sequel.

I think someone posted the world wide sales on here before at somewhere
around 100,000 copies. But I don't think it had an inclusive date, so
100,000 copies from introduction to when? It's still selling, so it's hard
to tell the number of copies to date.

The semi offical sales for GPL was 40,000 copies from the original
release.
