I've found it varies a good bit depending on the car you select.  The
Ferrari seems quite skittish, say at Monza, at least with the default setup.
Until I get used to the sim a bit, I've been running the Coventry, a bit
slower than the others, but extremely stable, and quite tossable.  In online
races, I usually overtake the Ferraris and Lotus's that passed me early on,
because they've spun out somewhere :-)

Maybe try the Coventry, or even the BRM and see if that helps some.  Then
maybe adjust your conrtol settings to get these fairly stable, and then try
the other cars and changing setups for them to get them stable.  At least,
mostly stable :-)

I set it at 1/4 the distance from the RIGHT with my T2 to alleviate the
twitchiness.  Moving it LEFT, makes it more twitchy for me.

damn right. just a very very slight movement of the wheel makes the car
swerve drastically. it can't be the hardware because it only does it in
certain cars. i guess this is their way of showing differences between the
cars. i rate this as a failure. it renders certains makes completely
undriveable. hopefully this can be fixed through better set-ups.

I don't think so. Maybe think about this as how they REALLY reacted on a
track. You needed finesse and dexterity to master this. If you aren't able I
can't do nothing more but to tell you that's realism.

Still, there's plenty of ways to counter zig-zagging with the setups. Pretty
easy even to make.

Make sure your wheel/pedals are calibrated, also check that you have no
wear in your steering wheel 'pot'  If the 'straight ahead' position is
worn, you will get the 'drift effect' from one side to the other!  I
took John Wallace's advise and set my slider approx 2/3rds of the way
from the left side. That seems to work ok,
Good luck

1.More toe-in, mainly in the rear - experiment
2.Camber-look at your tire temps to see if your tires are flat on the surface.
- adjust accordingly
3.Spring Rates-try softening up the rear

There's more, but we don't even want to start on the diff.!  It's a whole new
game, and I keep leaning towards locking mine up.  I must miss that solid axle
from karting.

thank heaven for "shift R"

You could try increasing toe-in a click or two. Or perhaps increase the
steering ratio a bit.  Either of these should make the car more sluggish to
turn, but more stable in the straights.  It's a trade-off, the easier it is to
control on the straight, the more you'll have to fight to make it turn. Read
the 4-Wheel Drift book that came with the game, especially the chapters on
setup & play with it until you find a compromise you're happy with.

Exactly.  20 to 25% from the left and it finally started working for me, too.

Im affraid the GPL cars, at least the Ferrari with a good setup do
start to turn when they reach high speed in a striaght line, i put
this down to very accurate sim engine
