fun and he took it like he always does....in good spirit of fun and dished
it back very well, indeed.
But just for the record (and the benefit of some of the newer visitors to
r.a.s), here's what I really think of Mr. Menard (after 5+ years of knowing
him in and about this sim racing community):
1. Frank can get cranky once in a while (don't we all), but he's been the
most knowledgeable and helpful person I have known in this community. He
knows allot, because he has been around here for a long, long time. I have
never seen him be anything more than gracious and helpful to the newbies and
experts alike.
2. I have never asked Frank a serious question, or had a serious discussion
with him, that I haven't come away more knowledgeable or more enlightened
than when I started. When he's not sure of the answer or issue, he goes and
finds out and gets back to you.
3. He changes his opinion or position easily, but requires you to have
your "ducks lined up" when you disagree or are on the other side of an issue
with him. There's a fine line between being "opinionated" and having
"conviction".....Frank does the best job of anyone I know of walking it. I
could learn something from him on this......and I will try to.
4. He is almost universally liked within the sim community. You can tell
this, by the number of people who "bust his balls" regularly!
5. Papyrus could help themselves by having Ymenard as a beta tester for
their NASCAR series. I haven't got a clue why he hasn't been one.
6. I don't know how "fast" Frank is in sim racing, I have rarely raced with
or against him (only a few times I think back on TEN). But, I know that he
knows as much if not more than anyone in sim racing, about racing, racing
techniques and skills, the driving line and all the subtleties contained in
those topics. If I was having problems getting up to speed on a
particularly tough road course, Frank is one the persons I'd seek advice and
counsel from.
That's what I really think of Francois Menard.

Tom
