More on Ubi Soft (ymenard is for once not bashing them!)

by ymenar » Thu, 15 Jun 2000 04:00:00

I'm pretty quiet about Ubi Soft these past months.  Actually, I'm very happy
about the way everything is going at the moment.  So I'm sure some of you
might say "What? Frank being soft on Ubi? Shocking!".  No, they are just a
little less worst than before ;)  Like F1 2000 <vbg> ;-)

Their next F1 title should be released at the end of 2001.  That's basically
3 full years after MGPRS2, which was released a year after F1RS.  That is a
very long time actually, especially since both titles made good business in
some markets (Qubec, France and many European countries with heavy F1
popularity).

There will be 2 important thing about this new title (which release date
might be sooner).  New game engine and Internet multiplayer championship.
Yep! A new game engine will be incredibly refreshing, considering it will
battle with F1 2001 and Gp4 possibily.  While I can't talk much about the
new game engine, be sure that it's an incredible step above the old one.
Even more than the old vs. new Papyrus game engine? No.  Ubisoft works in a
different way than Papyrus, and has multiple division of development
spreaded around the world.  It's fragmented also for the development of
their racing line, so building a completely new game engine takes more time
and is much less powerful.  But still, it can't be worse than the old one,
and I'm very happy of it.

The other important thing is that Ubi Soft will create a web portal with an
Internet multiplayer championship using that new title.
http://www.racesimcentral.net/, actually creating 25 jobs here
in Montral.  How do I know that much? I cannot tell! ;)   Basically, it
will be similar to the NROS championship (not the normal racing but the
championship we had during the end of 1998).  Preliminary online races will
be held and multiple division will then be created, racing for prizes and
money.  Jacques might actually race in the series, which is part of the
partnership he has with Ubisoft.

Intersting - but - will the tracks be 100% accurate?

Accidentally, according to rumours F1RS3 tracks will be developed
using GPS. ("accuracy to the inch/cm"; where did we hear that
before??)

Conclusion: the tracks will be super-accurate, and with what's left of
the budget they'll create wireframe cars that run in the middle of the
track.  <G>

I'm missing the irony here, but the accurate to the cm extra turns at
Cleveland in C:PR was really nice :D

Your Info is wrong. It's not F1rs3 they are talking about. Rs3 is developed
by Ubisoft France i read and will be ready end of this year. Ubisoft Canada
has signed the contract with JV and that title will be released somewhere in
2001. The project is called F1 racing in 20 years....JV want's everybody to
experience the best way to get realism. JV will be having a big input in the
stuff and i'm really happy to hear that....and the best thing is he want's
it to be big online with contests and stuff.

And about the Gameloft...that's old stuff too;) The Gameloft would have
released already half year ago but thanks some guys of the rs2 community it
got on hold and the engine is very good developed actually. I have been
testing the beta version last couple of months and it still has it problems.
But the interface fabulous...even the Vroc or the old Gameservice looks like
nothing compared to this Portal. And the best thing of the Gameloft that it
will get servers almost over the world.

Ubi Soft and gameloft are not sitting still for sure.
I can tell my info, it's just the Gameloft/Ubisoft Canada;)

Just listen to the press conference itself.....It won't be a F1 racing game
at all.

Of course, with the latest developments, some things might chance in this
situation, and that's what I was told.  They told me RS3 could easily be
pushed back to merge those 2 titles into 1.  Like I said, the release might
be pushed back, I was told upon the possible USGP but I wrote the start of
the next season since from what I saw it can't be ready for such an early
release date.  I was also told RS3 would be merged with the whole gameloft
division after it's release.

They won't merge it i think. The Game on which the JV title is based says
alot i think...yuo can call it a sim if the cars will be the cars of 2020?;)
JV and Ubisoft have totally different idea's about it and they call it even
a Urban racing game...says enough does it;) Just watch the press conference
yourself.

2020?;)

Actually, it will probably be 1990-2010.

JV's association is just PR, like Arrows with Geoff Crammond.  In the end,
JV will have a global idea with the Ubisoft team at Montral doing
everything else.  You think I didn't watch/wasn't at the conference? You
would be surprised if I told you more ;)
