I emailed them asking SPECIFICALLY about the patch, and got the
following reply (which didn't answer any of my questions - I think it
was like a form letter or something - it assumed I was having problems,
which I'm not, I just want to know about the patch!)
Dear Sir
RE: TOCA
The game requires a minimum of p133 with 3dfx support and p166 without
3dfx support. TOCA requires a minimum of 4meg from the graphics card
to work, without this it will be bypassed and the game will operate
off the spec of the machine. In some cases this will cause a crash
during the loading bar, even though it is operating off a p166. If
your card is below a 4meg, you will need to upgrade.
If you are having problems with crashes or screen lockups or strange
graphics, you may need to check that all of your hardware components
are certified. As TOCA is accessed via the latest version of
Microsoft DirectX (v.5) as apposed to MS-DOS which most other games
use, it may be that your graphics or sound cards are not being
recognised. To check, do the following: My Computer / double right
click on the CDROM drive / pick 'explore' from the scroll down menu /
double left click on DirectX / double left click on DXSetup. This
will show you all of the hardware components on the left, the version
numbers in the middle and whether or not they are certified on the
right. If there are any blanks or messages you will need to update
your drivers, to do this contact the manufacturers of your cards (via
the telephone or the Internet). Once installed DirectX will recognise
them and access the extra resource of your cards, and graphics, speed
etc. will improve.
If you are unable for any reason to re-install the game, please check
that you have removed it from the registrar (c:/windows/regedit/hkey
local machine/software/highlight and delete 'Codemasters').
If, when you are trying to load the game it asks for a .DLL file, you
will need to un-install the game (via the disk) and re-install but
when asked if you want to install DirectX, you must say yes (even if
you already have it as it will do a search and skip automatically if
it is already installed, it may be that you have version 4.0). The
game should then run perfectly.
I hope this helps with your enquiry, if you require any further
information, please do not hesitate to contact me (help line: 01926
816 044).

What patch? I visted the web site and all it says was:
Coming soon, a TOCA Touring Car Championship patch will be released
providing enhanced features.<<
So there is a patch in the pipeline, but nothing there at the moment. I
daresay when it's released, they'll let us know what it does (well,
hopefully).
Cheers,
Steve.
