N2003 - How to enabe 1024x1024 car textures?

by Mark Daviso » Mon, 17 Feb 2003 20:12:57

Done some Google searching, read readmes, looked thru ini files...

Having painstakingly recreated my N2002 car in hi-res, it looks like ***in
the N2K3 official demo (full version not released here).  Is there a setting
to switch or is it just that it's an automatic thing dependent on PC spec?

Spec is AMD 1800 XP, 512Mb PC2100 DDR, GF Ti4200 128Mb, SB Audigy 2, XP
Home, etc.

TIA and best regards,

I believe I have this right, but open your player.ini file for the player
that you are using when painting cars.  For most people there is only 2
choices for this, the default player, and the one you have created.  In the
player.ini file, look for the following entries:

[Paintkit]
save_textures_with_compression=0

I believe when this is set to a 1, in uses compression, and when 0, cars are
created using uncompressed textures.

I am not sure this is the entire story to high resolution cars though.  I
had someone convert mine to high resolution using some other type process,
and when viewed in paintshop, it is entirely screwed up, but on the track it
appears correct.  The car file size though was the same as the ones I did
using the above process, so I am not sure if the quality was better or not.
I couldn't tell a difference, but that could have been due to the quality of
the original file that he had to work with.

That is the way the guy created mine.  Apparently this is a better solution
than importing without texture compression alone...

Player.ini
[Paintkit]
save_textures_with_compression=0         ; Enable texture compression on saved textures.
