Tom's Hardware said it was basically the same as the current Geforce3 and
offered very little improvement other than it would be cheaper.

Well they have something wrong, I have 2 cards here and true to their word
they very nearly double my 3DMark2001 score.

2!  Showoff!! :)

I'll take one of those of your hands :)

Will need to get one soon actually, want to start some d3d advanced stuff in
the near future!  Any idea what the pricing will be?

All the best,
Ash

Supposedly the double in speed is only if you went from the old card with
old drivers to a new card with new drivers.
From the older card with the newest drivers to the new card isn't a big
improvement or so I have read.

Who cares?  This is just another passing fad.

I don't believe this is going to make Pong or
Space Invaders any more thrilling than they
already are.

I bet they don't even support accepted
standards, like the ISA bus.

This is just more bullshit from people who
want me to give up my perfectly adequate 286.

Not what Ive found, had the latest nvidia drivers with the old GF3 and my
3dmark2001 was 3589, took old card out, put new one in, ran 3dmark again
6512.

Well maybe it's true, just going from what I read.
Have to wait for more tests I guess.

I think you may have had a bad test for the original  GF3.  With my AMD 1.4
I score 3650 with the 21.81 drivers on a Geforce2 GTS. When I did the video
board comparasion GF3 was getting about 5800 on simular systems.

ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!

I had Desktop Dyno on a 286. Me and a buddy could drink a 6 pack while
shooting the shit in the time that thing took to run a simulation.

Would be interesting to know what kind of CPU you have pushing those
cards, because we built a new PC for my brother the other day, an AMD
1400 with DDRAM (ASUS A7M266) and a GF2 PRO (Gainward 450 "Golden
Sample") 21.xx something drivers, and this PC scores about 4000 in
3DMark20001, no overclocking or tweaking or anything like that on either
the CPU or the vid card, and this seems to fall in line with what you
should expect from a reasonably well assembled PC with those specs.....?

Beers and cheers

Your first score seems awfully low.  For more comparison, even using the 12.90
drivers, my 32mb Geforce2GTS scored 4204.  (Haven't tested with the 21.XX
drivers yet, never had the time)

Checking with the ORB at madonion.com reveals that the typical GF3 score is a
little over 6000, which would mean your increase to 6512 is only a 512 point
climb... not that impressive.

If you look at the card specs it's hard to think you could get more than
around 20% improvement  in a test:

            Ti500            GF3
        =========        ========
Fill            3.84B                    3.2B
Ops/sec    960B                    800B
Mem bw    8.0GB/sec            7.36 GB/sec

Anandtech has a review of the Titanium up already.  I don't think he
is getting double the performance.
