Hi,  thanks for reading this.

I was wondering if anyone remembers an old driving/racing sim made in the early
90's, maybe 93 or 94.  I believe it had a license from Car and Driver or Road
and Track.  It had a few cars... I'm not sure how many, but they were mostly
***s and high end sports cars.  I dont think it had any GT racers, but I may
be mistaken because it had a track that I think was modeled after Laguna Seca
(it was twisty and was in a desert).  Other tracks included a coastline drive
over bridges and by service stations, a parking lot (by far the most fun),  and
a forest drive near a river, and a drag strip.

It ran on my old 286 (slowly at low detail) and was polygonal except for
sprites of trees and other roadside debris.  It was extremely fun (then
atleast) and I want to find it somewhere for download, or purchase.  It wasnt a
very big program, it took about four 1.44mb diskettes for the entire program.

If anyone has information on where to obtain the program (or even the name), it
would be much appreciated.  If anyone has it, I could trade you something for
it.

Thanks again,
Eric Payne

I think the name was something like Road&Track.
I remember playing that game about 3 years ago.

Well, Need For Speed had a Road & Track license I think, but I can't see
it being that. There was a game called Car and Driver, made, I think, by
Atari, though I dunno if it came out on the PC.

The one with the shopping mall parking lot was called simply "Car &
Driver" and was produced by EA.  Don't know where you would find it, but I
probably wouldn't bother, as it had some timing problems when I tried it
on my P133.  It was a nice concept that I would like to see updated.  The
selection of cars was quite good (Esprit, MR2, Talon, Cobra, XJ220 etc)
and it
was fun having the variety of driving (dragstrip, SOLO II autocross, cross
country, Laguna Seca, oval and of course the reverand Bob Dodd's own Vegas
track).  However, I found the control was terrible, even with a T2, as the
game was produced before  people had really figured out analog controls
(compare GP1 with a wheel to GP2, or ICR1 to ICR2).  I think it's better
you leave this one in the misty regions of your memory dedicated to
nostalgia.

That was, in fact, Car & Driver.  Im looking for a game similar to that
one supporting my Nascar Pro Wheel and 3dfx.  I like games with that
much freedom.

I think you are looking for Test Drive from Accolade.  I had it and yes, it
was a bunch of fast cars, Lotus/Vette/Ferrari/Porshe ...
