I would imagine it depends on how much force you are getting back off
your pedals. If they are very light to the touch then its probable that
you would find it difficult to feel whats going on if you were wearing a
pair of trainers. This is certainly what I found with my pedals.
However, both my pedals have been given extra oomph by placing a tennis
ball behind each, which means that I can wear a pair of soft trainers
and still feel the pedals pushing back quite well.
