DX8
Install went flawless
Sound is excellent
Framerates at 1280x960x16
Framerates from 40's at start of race, rear of field to 100+ with a few cars
in view.
I use OpenGL or D3D...both work fine.
Guess I got lucky.

I had hard lockups in Win2K, but not Win98...

Has anyone else noticed that when it comes to start up problems with N4, the
term "Old Toshiba CD-ROM Drive" seems to come up a lot?
Maybe there is something to this...

Don't know about that. It was an older 32x Toshiba drive that solved
my problems with copy protected cdroms. Got it for free from a friend
too.
