Hi
        I am planning to add 4 buttons to my T2 wheel for F1GP (change up/down,
pits, gap) and I was wondering if anyone could suply me with some info on the
functions of all the pins in a joystick port, or at least the relevant pins for
both buttons on both joysticks.

The pin layout for the MALE plug, looking
at the pins, is as follows (they should be numbered on the plug
anyway):

I'd have thought that this would not be possible?  As far as I know, you
can't reconfigure what keys/controller are used for Pits/Gap - so you'd
have to do something like wire the extra buttons in series with the
keys on the keyboard ?  Dunno - but I think this may be the case.

On a similar theme, has anybody added gear change paddles to their T2?
I got one recently, and would like to add paddles (or at least whee-
mounted gear change buttons).  Any thoughts?

Well... it is possible if you use a TSR utility called gpbutton written by
Trevor Kellaway (like all those other utils...). It allows you to assign
joystick buttons to keys on the k/b, so that, for instance joy2 button A can be
set as g on the keyboard, and button B can be set as Enter

I thought about the paddles for a long while, but i decided that it was
probably a little complex, so instead i borrowed the idea of someone with a T1
and put buttons in the holes of the top 2 spokes of the wheel. i have two
facing away from me in the outermost holes, and two facing towards me in the
second hole, the idea being that you can change up/down with your fingers and
pits/gap with you thumbs. Apparently, however, many people have told me this is
very uncomfortable for them, so maybe i have long fingers or something, but it
works fine for me. now all that remains is for me to solder the wires into
position and i will let you know the results... There is a web page with
pictures of the modified T1 around somewhere, but i am unsure of the URL...
anyone know?

By the way can anyone tell me if switches with spst contacts rated 0.5 A at 125
VAC (whatever that means) are suitable for direct connection into a joystick
port? they are the only ones of the correct diameter i could find...

by your joystick port.   :-)

SPST means Single Pole Single Throw... and the switch can handle .5amps at
125 Volts. Since your computer steps down the voltage substantially, those
switches should DEFINITELY be able to handle the load.  Whats that formula
again.. umm...

Anyways, the switches that are inside the T2 that I have are the same as the
ones you can buy a good ole Radio Shack that have those same specs.

P.S. Make sure you are buying pushbutton switches that are NORMALLY OFF or you
will be changing gears all the time EXCEPT when you press the buttons. The
Single Pole Single Throw means that activating the switch closes the gap
between one pole, where as DPST (Double Pole) means that you are closing the
gap between 2 poles, and DPDT (Double Pole Double Throw) means your switch
will have 3 positions.. off, on one way and on another.. so make sure for this
application it is the SPST.
