F1-2001: Auto Gears not shifting down .. ??

by Fuji Sarton » Fri, 26 Oct 2001 08:22:59

Hi all,

I've been playing F1-2001 for around 1 week now, mostly on the Indy track.

I've noticed that when I brake or decallerate, my car's gears don't always, I'd say 3 out of 4 times, don't shift down. Only when I step on the throtle when exiting a corner would the gear shit down, then shift back up again as I accellerate.

I don't know if this is normal for an F1 car but I certainly feel that I loose valueable seconds as my car's gears shift down and up again during re-accelleration.

I drive a Williams-BMW with default car setup. Shifting assistance ON, clutch assistance ON.

Anybody else experiencing this? Is this normal?

Thanks in advance.

I would guess that it doesn't want to down-shift while braking because
if it's done too fast you will spin out.  Just turn off shifting help ;)

always, I'd say 3 out of 4 times, don't shift down. Only when I step on the

again as I accellerate.

No-one does, because F1 cars don't have (fully) automatic gearboxes.

Anyway, there's no good reason to shift down during braking. Real drivers
will shift seqeuentially down through the gears simply so that there are no
surprises from the rear end when it's time to accelerate out of the corner.
