All right, now we've cleared the air, let's look at at why it works fine for me
(ignoring the poxy lines across the***pit which I hope will be fixed in the
'official beta') and not for you.

I have a 200MMx system as well and I'm pretty sure that I'm hitting up to 30
fps with everything on, and all cc drawn.  What 3dfx card are you using?  What
variables are you using in the nas3dfx.bat file (have you changed any)?  Are
you running in dos or win95?

What

Monster 3D. I am rebooting into DOS (No dos window, a clean reboot).
And here is my nas3dfx.bat file. (I have changed about every setting at one
time or another.)

SET N2FXAA=2
SET N2FXFOG=0.00
SET N2FXLOAD=0x100000
NAS3DFX.EXE -3DFX

Let me see if I understand this.  You have free access to a newsgroup
where you can read hundreds of candid reviews of, for example, a 3dfx
patch for N2 the minute it is released.  And now you are complaining
because you jumped the gun and bought a $40 software package because
you couldn't wait a few days to start reading the reviews.  You didn't
do your homework.  too bad.  I am using "you" in the general sense
here; your note was just a convenient one to tack a followup onto.
As for the suggestion that one needs to invest heavily in hardware
upgrades to make it run, the obvious solution is just to go buy an old
Rendition board for about 80 bucks.  Problem solved.

:
: >I believe that the reason the patch doesnt work as good as it should is because
: >N2 was designed to run with Rendition, not 3Dfx.  N3 should make up for this
: >when it is released in the fall. I am disappointed too, in fact, I went out and
: >bought a Voodoo2 as soon as I found out the patch came out.  Talk about
: >disappointed.
:
: So did a friend of mine. Before he bought it, I warned him that some
: 3dfx implimentions are porked. Oh well... Looks like he's going to
: have to drop another $350 on a MB and pII233 to get this to run
: smoothly.
:
: I like (or can live with) everything about this patch - except the
: frame rate. It is definately worse with the 3dfx running. In a game
: like this, frame rate is very important. Neither one of us intends on
: running in 3dfx mode. I guess we get what we pay for. Thanks for
: nothing Papy, but thanks for trying too.
:
: Regards.

Hey  Greg, you should add the below set commands to get the most out
of your Monster 3D. Adjust the gamma to your liking.

SET SST_GRXCLK=57
SET SST_FASTMEM=1
SET SST_FASTPCIRD=1
SET SST_GAMMA=1.3
SET FX_GLIDE_SWAPINTERVAL=0

And sacrifice my fast 2D card. No chance, mate.

Thanks I may. But in general I am "dark" on doing that SET SST
stuff. To this point is simply hasn't been needed. Plus I think it
should work without that. ie. they programmed it for stock 3dfx
board settings.

Either that or your 3Dfx setup sux ...

This is an over-generalization. On my P200 there is a clear frame-rate
increase even in the in-car view compared to software rendering
(although it IS clearly not as fast as the external view).

They are safe to use. If you get any problems then just lower the
clock speed until it's stable. I think you should overclock your
200mmx to 233mhz too. ;-)

Free access? I pay $20/month for my net access, and another $10/month
for usenet.

I wasn't complaining. I'm stateing facts. The frame rate is worse. Did
you notice that I thanked Papy for trying?

What homework? I've owned my Monster for over a year, and have never
regreted the purchase. I prefer flight sims over driving sims. The
Monster is a much better choice than the Rendition. I did my homework.

I'd prefer to stay with a fast video card, thank you. I wont have time
for Nascar once Janes f15 arrives next week, anyhow.

Im way off topic here, but is Janes F-15 really going to be released next
week?
In the States I guess you mean too. Im in Canada so even if it comes out
then I guess I have to wait any ways.  The screen shots look like it will be
worth the wait though!!

That's not right. You need to get a new ISP if they make you pay for Usenet

I was only kidding. But, if you really want to do it then you just
need to change the jumpers on your motherboard and make sure the cpu
is well cooled. To read all about overclocking and how to do it I
suggest you go to www.tomshardware.com and read all the info he has
there on overclocking before you actually try it.

It's supposed to be out on the 27th. EB in Canada won't be much behind
the U.S. Maybe a few days later.
