Finally d'l the mod. I've got v 2.3 main installer and v 2.1 carpack. Plan on
trying it out this weekend. Is this enough to get started? And can anyone point
me to a FAQ on TPTCC? Any advice welcomed.
TIA

The Daytona Road Course is a must have.., as is Le Sarthe (the 24 of LeMans
course) and both Sebring (Day and Night versions)...All are available from
theuspits.com website.
Just a side note...get the Trans mod from Project wildfire...it has better
graphics and more downloadable cars... if you are an online racer, you will
also find more pickup races and leagues...
Both seem to use the same phsysics model so you should be at home with
either one.
I'm not trying to put down TPTCC- they did a wonderful job but I personally
have to give Wildfire's T/A mod ..(hmm) the nod.
Helps this helps,
Timmy

I *think* the 2.3 main installer includes the (same) cars.

I  would recommend Achim's setups to get you started.

Well, if you were telling the truth about TPTCC, I would say that maybe that you were ok.  However, since you haven't, you are
putting down TPTCC.

Better graphics?  Since the ONLY graphics available are the car paintschemes, main menu and***pit, and I cannot see that one
is better than the other, so what's your point?   Opinion.

More downloadable cars.  Obviously, you've not even LOOKED if you say there are more downloadable cars for T/A.  Opinion.

More pickup races and leagues.  Pickup races usually follow what has been released the latest.  I'd bet within a few days,
AeroWar 88 will have the most pickup races.  As far as leagues, I'd say it's about 50/50.

While I am certainly biased as to which one I like the most, at least I will tell you my *opinion* is.  You are more than
welcome to enjoy whatever one you want to, just don't go around cutting down someone else's mod by stating YOUR opinion as fact.

Cheers!

TPTCC newb questions

Sorry, but the car models are much higher quality in the PWF mod.  Look at
the TPTCC Viper - the polys on the rear quarters are going every which way,
you can tell by looking at the highlights.  And the rear wing is clearly off
center to the left side of car.  Either that or the rear quarters are far
from symmetrical.  OTOH it's hard to find a bad poly on the PWF Viper, the
highlights look smooth everywhere and everything is symmetrical.  Similar
comments can be applied to the other cars.  Granted, the proportions of some
of the PWF cars can be questioned, but the quality of the surfacing and
skins is superior to the TPTCC mod.  That's not opinion, anybody who takes
an objective side-by-side look at both could see the same thing.

paintschemes, main menu and***pit, and I cannot see that one

I have not seen what you are talking about, and I race against TPTCC cars almost every day on the track.

I have seen the 'stretch' Mustang and other shapes, so I wonder what you base your realism on.

My first thought seeing the PWF Viper was it was much blockier than the
TPTCC version.  Still think that.  Having never SEEN a Comp Coupe except on
the tube and in a magazine, I can't say which is closer to the truth..just
that PWF seems more like a block than the TPTCC version.  I'm a league
member of TPTCC and I have used PWF for the 6 hour Daytona Endurance run,
but I will admit a bias towards TPTCC.  I think the only real advantage
that PWF holds is their uniform size(which causes the proportional
problems) but allows the correct damage bubble.
The PWF JAGs that are AI controlled seem to sit way to high.  It's probably
just their compromise for the ride-height bug.  Otherwise it look great.
The PWF Mustang is modeled after a car no longer used by Trans Am...That
one is more from the Tommy Kendall days than the Boris Said era.
The TPTCC cars look more naturally positioned on the track, but not in
replays..track wins
And the Vettes?  I never look at either of them...a pox on them all  :)
But then, I'm not a detail person.  You could say the wing is off center
and I'd never see it.  You could point out the shark gills are misplaced,
whatever, I see the overall shape vs the minute details.   Does one stand
HEAD AND SHOULDERS ABOVE the other?  naw...

For me the real difference are the people.  I've been racing with some of
them for nearly 6 or 7 years...That crazy Viking, the the lads from Old
Irish Racing, I just know more of the TPTCC crowd.  Nothing wrong with PWF
drivers, they most likely are all faster than me there too.  If I was to
limit my participation just because some highlights are better in one vs
the other, then I'd be missing out on good racing.  With either mod.

Yep...appears it does. While installing I couldn't help but notice that Ol John
Simmons is a painter for the mod. Guess I'll borrow that 43 while I try and
learn this thing John. Thanks for all you've painted for me. Now to grab some
tracks and give it a shot...

Sort of like people who limit themselves to only watching CART over IRL...

I don't choose one because of perceived superiority..but rather because
the other one has been possessed by the very source of all things evil.
It's that simple really.  Osama? Adolf? Joesph?, Pol?  All amateurs

Look at the TPTCC Viper from the rear view in a replay, it is very obvious
that the wing is off center.

TPTCC newb questions

I race in a TPTCC league too.  I am not prejudiced against TPTCC, nor do I
have a bias for PWF.  In fact I think the***pit view in the TPTCC mod is a
little easier to drive than the one in the PWF mod.  This is intended to be
constructive criticism.  As I said, "Granted, the proportions of some of the
PWF cars can be questioned, but the quality of the surfacing and skins is
superior to the TPTCC mod."  That is my one and only point.  Yes, I agree,
the PWF Viper does not seem to have the correct proportions.  But I can't
find a bad reflection on it anywhere, which indicates that they tuned their
surface very carefully.  OTOH from the rear of the TPTCC Viper you can see
this *** trapezoidal reflection on the decklid that looks nothing like
reality, and the reflections along the rear quarters zigzag as you go around
the car.  If TPTCC were to keep their basic shape but tune the surface
better and fix the wing they would have a car that is clearly superior to
the PWF Viper.  But it seems they, or rather one of them in particular,
would rather argue about it than listen to constructive criticism.  And BTW
I have seen a real competition coupe, in fact I can go down to our labs
almost any day of the week and look at one.  Quite frankly there are some
details that neither mod captures correctly, like the location of the fuel
filler or the duct behind the backlight, but there doesn't seem to be much
point in going into it given the reception I generally get.

released the latest.  I'd bet within a few days,

I wish there was only 1 mod so that all the online races were in the one
place!
