Did you see at Gateway when Dario and Paul Tracy got together, Dario
kept on the gas, slid around at what, 150?, with about a 20 degree
oversteer slip angle and got back on the racing line?  I've saved
myself once or twice at dubai (theuspits.com) that way on the compound
corner.  Dang cool.  Why does it work?  I suppose you're transfering
weight to the rear by trying to accelerate, and also the larger slip
angle in the back increases lateral force there, right?  Love it.

And don't forget the element of fear. That can help too!

Yes, he was on the gas and practically shredding a tire
with wheel spin.  I was just about to tell my wife..who hates
all forms of racing..even simulated..that the two green cars
were teammates and they had wrecked before...when Paul got
slowed by traffic I stopped and said...lookout these two will
wreck...:)

The extra "grip" of two flexing butt-cheeks and the "aero" downforce
generated by the inhalation of the sphincter area helped as well.

I think the fact that he didn't want to face Tracy in the infield hospital
might have had something to do with it<vbg>. Dario figured the only way he
could save face was to put the car on the podium, then Barry Green couldn't
yell at him too much.

Hmmm.... From where I was it looked like the accident was more Tracy's
fault..?

Here's my take on what happened.  See if you all agree:

-Dario gets a run on Paul.

-Ariel view shows Dario pulling his front wheels ahead of
Paul's front wing on the straight.

-Paul is defending and pushes Dario way down to the inside
of the straight (which he has a right to do).

-Dario backs off earlier than Paul because he's so far inside.

-Paul backs off later trying to retake the corner.

-Paul doesn't leave Dario more than a whisker's extra room, if that.

-Dario is *** the brakes and has his left wheels on the
 white line entering.

-Dario puts his left wheels on the rumble strips and comes up
by about 1 foot as a result.

-Since Paul is leaving just a whisker's room, they touch sending
Paul into the wall and Dario spinning.

In my opinion, this accident was Paul's fault for defending too
agressively and leaving Dario no room to maneuver.  Dario made
a completely legitimate move on Paul.  He got his wheels ahead and
should expect a bit of professional consideration.  He got little
to none and they crashed.

Just my opinions.  They could be wrong.  But, then again, so
could yours.

Don't get me wrong Graeme, I'm not even going to try and assign blame in that
one except that I feel they both could have exercised a bit more patience.

I just think that the last thing Dario wanted at that moment was have Tracy in
his face<g>.
