I do take offense to what you have said. For me GPL has been the racing game
that i keep coming back to after all the others. I have played nfs3 and 4
and they do look pretty but after a little while, the rail like physics just
dont do it for me. I go back to GPL every time. The attention to detail, and
the wonderful physics engine set a new standard in PC racing games. Maybe
you should play the demo a bit longer and don't give up just because you are
spinning off all the time. Give it a while and you will understand why GPL
is the king of racing sims.

Hey... A few months ago GPL did not have FF. I also think that
without FF GPL would be impossible :-)

I still think that anyone who likes the 'ring in GPL is nuts. I have only
driven at Monza and Monaco, but the other sims are truly bad now.
It is the same with flightsims. After flying a good one a poor flightmodel
just destroys the game. Anyway I'm with you guys now :-)

I guess it's just that most of us are spending more of our time
driving, versus sightseeing and watching the pretty (or not so pretty)
pictures going by...  :)

Is this the longest thread ever, or what! Yeah GPL must be an average game.
I must admit that I wasn't impressed by the demo either, but it doesn't do
the full game justice.
You need to play it for at least a week before it starts to get hold of you.
It isn't instantly accessible, which some don't like. For the rest of us
it's just a religion.

No Ron, GPL is the Half Life of racing sims. There is a fair amount of skill
required to really appreciate this game.... gotta pay your dues or steer
well clear as the arcade approach to GPL is a one way ticket to frustration
city.

But you've got somewhat of a point... I truly wish there were more sims of
this calibre to talk about here. But until one arrives, I think there's
lot's more to discuss as online GPL matures and people are moving into
longer, more difficult races (both online and offline).

Ooooer, it's a man from the dark side :-)

Yeah other sims are truly bad.  The 'ring is like a whole other game within
the game... yup, it's for loons!

Mike.

ps.  must get practising with that new F4 1.07 patch!!!

Reminds me of this quote : "Anyone who says he likes the ring is either
lying or didn't drive fast enough"

Anyone care to remind me of who said this

Ditto, Graeme!

I would have bought GPL if it had simply been called "German GP 1967" and
only had the one circuit!

Check this out - there's a great Grand Prix History site at
http://www.ddavid.com/formula1/index.htm.

Apart from his autobiography at
http://www.ddavid.com/formula1/stew_bio.htm, there's a great article by
the man himself about his best-ever race - his victory at the 1968
German Grand Prix.

http://www.ddavid.com/formula1/nurburg1968.htm

Definitely worth a read!

I think what he would like to hear is:

Doom is to Wolfenstein as GPL is to [all other race sims].

...

That isn't fair because, in the words of Eric Cartman, OF1R sucks *ss.
(sorry if anyone's offended).

Unless the retail versions has a FAR better simulation than the awful
arcade mode of the demo. The demo killed it for me in 15 minutes.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. (FX: yawn........)

The demo, wow, now thats what I call a *proper* review? Wouldn't want to
try the full program, no, no, no.

Terrible graphics, right, sure. Try getting a decent graphics card *and*
the right drivers so it can be used with GPL. Then tell us it has
terrible graphics.

Perhaps the gameplay is better? you didn't actually hang around long
enough to try it out then?

This really is what I call an informed, sensible, comprehensive,
constructive post.

You really know your stuff don't you......NOT!

I read about what Jackie Stewart did at the ring the year that it was
raining(year?), it hs given me huge amounts of respect for the man. There
are not many who can say they raced a wet nurburgring and won.
