GPL Frame rate help needed

I'm currently getting 25fps from GPL with my current setup. Any ideas on how
to get that up towards the elusive 36fps mark would be really appreciated!
:-)

System:

Intel Pentium III 500
Diamond Viper V500 (nVidia RIVA TNT)    - using Diamond's own driver set
(they provide some neat utils)
64meg RAM
MS FF Wheel + Pedals
Win98 (relatively new installation - I wiped the slate clean a month ago)
DirectX 6.1
GPL v1.2.0.1 + OpenGL patch, full installation
Tonnes of HD space
ISA Creative Labs Sb64 AWE (I can't use a PCI card as my Chinatech
motherboard comes with it's own PCI soundchip, but it is horrible, seemingly
can't be disabled, and insists on screwing up my PCI Sb64 AWE)   :-(

Cheers,

Bobby

Have you turned down the mirror update? In the core.ini there should be a
line that says MirrorsEvery=x x being a number. Try to increase the number
if you havn't already done that.

I see you're using an MSFF and DX6.1.  Most people (me included) find that
DX7.0A (the A is important) gives a fps boost with this wheel.  However, the
graphics card and soundcard are both holding back your PIII 500, I'm afraid.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

Neil

Yup - I've done the mirrors thing - that helped a lot.

What does anybody know about the nvidia Detonator drivers? Would they give a
performance boost? I thought the RIVA TNT chipset was a good one. :-/

Thanks for all the suggestions - I'm not in the position to buy a Voodoo
card or anything else for that matter, but it's something to keep in the
back of the mind I guess.

I have allmost the same configuration, GPL didnt run great so I bought an
old single V2 which works great for some older Glide only games (such as F4,
Hornet Korea and GPL).

Good luck.

have you tried soundquality=0 in the app.ini??
This will help quite a bit.. but you get worse quality sound..

Hi there,
I also have an nVidia RIVA TNT2 card (32mb) and after asking on here someone
posted that editing the following in the registry might help:-

changing the value of the "FlippingControl" setting in the registry to "0".
Depending on the driver version, this setting can be found in

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\RIVA TNT\OpenGL], or

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\Display\0001\NVi
dia\OpenGL]

When doing a fresh install, the settings won't appear in the registry
until an opengl game is run once.

Also the following can be changed in core.ini:-

 TossHighestMip = 0
to
TossHighestMip = 1

and

 MirrorsEvery = 1
to
MirrorsEvery = 8

I actually have the mirrors set to 4 and it seems ok.

With the above chanes and the OpenGL patch I get 30-36fps everywhere except
the start with 19ai cars and all forward details on.

Hope this helps.

Are you refering to the old banshee patch?  My core.ini doesn't have a line
for mirrors.
