Matrox released a beta D3D rasterizer for the G200. I
got it working (lots of people tried and failed; sometimes
beta really means beta), but it had lots of texture
problems. AFAIK, they never released a second version.
There's the beta OpenGL rasterizer, which works pretty
well on TNT cards, but I've never heard of anyone
getting it to work on a Matrox card. Of course, it's
possible that Matrox could improve their OpenGL drivers
to the point where it works, but if you know the history
of the G200 ICD debacle, you know not to count on it.
If GPL is a key requirement, you should probably buy a
Voodoo 3 or TNT 2 instead. If you're really set on the
Matrox card for other reasons, you could always run a
cheap Voodoo 2 alongside it.
