Finally got F1RS running last night over Dial Up Networking in Win 95.Both
machines have to have the same components installed in the Network folder in
Control Panel and one has to be set as a server with Plus for Win 95 and
Allow Caller access set to on.Our configuration is,
Client for Microsoft Networks
Client for Netware Networks
Dial Up Adapter
IPX/SPX compatible Protocol
Netbeui
TCP/IP
File & Printer sharing for Microsoft Networks - with file sharing enabled.
It seems to have a few bugs in it as in sometimes the other driver doesn't
go to the race. You take off at the start of the race and the other car stays
on the line because no ones in it.He,s still back at the menus waiting. There
are no other cars in a race apart from whoever is in the network race which
i found a bit disappointing and you can only do a single race,no qualifying
just race.Might be better with more people than two like we had.Whenever you
get close to other car,which i didn't do too often,***y sand traps,the
frame rate seems to drop considerately, might be because i had replays turned
on though and also the other computer is a P150,could be struggling to keep
up, i don't know. Will turn replays off next time and check again.
Nothing that a patch can't fix i'm sure. They put a modem link patch into
GP1,i know it was terrible but Geoff Crammond liked it so much he used again
for GP2!Surely Ubisoft can make a patch for Modem to Modem play.
All in all it was good to finally sort out the problem and get it
running, nothing like racing against a human player.
Sid.
