N2-Critical Error !! Need Help !!

by Stephen Wal » Tue, 07 Jan 1997 04:00:00

Please bear with me, a newbie question to follow.

After a full install of Nascar2 and no CD in the drive, I get the
message:
Critical Error: Abort, Retry, Ignore, Fail ?_

If I hit "R", the game loads and everything is fine from there on.

Why does it do this, and is there anything that I can do to eliminate
this irratating message ? BTW, this is a Windows 95 installation.

 Thanks for any help......... Steve

More FAQ material (might already be there)
The game is looking for the intro to play (the smackply line in the
batch file)

Either comment that line out of the batch file, or run the game
directly to avoid the error.

From the C:\nascar2 dir type nascar2 again and not n2 and you will
not get the error message

It wants to play the intro movie from the CD.  Solutions include:
* put the CD in,
* use just the NASCAR2.EXE command to run the program (instead
  of the N2.BAT batch file),
* copy the movie (INTRO.SMK, about 25 meg) to your hard drive, or
* REM the command to run the movie out of the N2.BAT file (easier if
you've already got a Win95 shortcut to N2.BAT set up).

You should only really *need* the CD in the machine if you are
hosting a multi-player game.

Before you send me UCE, I know what you're thinking...  Did he complain
to five or six postmasters last month?  Now, you must ask yourself one
question: "Do I feel lucky?"  Well, do you, punk?

It's not a "critical error" in that it won't prevent you from playing the
game normally.
If you have a full install, just hit the 'I' (Ignore) key.
Annoying, yes. But that's all it is.
